the new map technology is awesome

loaded my favorites into the new 2350LMT. Pressed one of them, a Hess station, and the 2350LMT said unable to calculate route. Combine that with the nice green traffic circle as I headed into bumper to bumper traffic jams 2 days in a row, this unit is a winner winner chicken dinner! C'mon Google, shoot this dead horse called Garmin already.....

Traffic

Traffic is not done by Garmin. It's a third party. And then transmitted over the air to your GPS. Two possibilities there. The third party is not getting timely traffic updates or the local broadcast station carrying the data stream isn't getting them in a timely fashion.

Can't speak to Hess. What is that? A gas station? Try another one and see if it calculates properly.

Hess

Yea, it sounds like a POI file problem, or user error. It does happen on occasion.

I agree...

the improvements are great.

the last map updates I

the last map updates I downloaded weeks ago are much better.

The previous version for my Garmin was terrible. The old version had right vs left confused. After going though interstate ramps it would zoom way out spin around and take about 30 - 40 seconds to "find itself" and go back to normal view. It would zoom so far out that you could no longer tell where you were. It was so bad I was considering trying to go back to the previous version.

After updating the maps are so far correct as well as it now knows left from right. Also noticed multiple junction views have been added for my area.

I love my new 2460LMT, which is very similar to the 2450. I too think the traffic feature is pretty useless. Well, at least in my area.

I suppose if I worked for Garmin tech support, I'd say user error as well, it's the easiest thing to do rather than admit there's any problem with the design. smile

The favorite came right out of the 660 and worked for 2 years.

Seriously, this co. has a lot in common with RIMM as far as what they're facing in the business climate imho...maybe they will wake up and adapt to the new paradigm. Just imagine what Nikon and Canon faced when digital photography came out--they moved swiftly out of 35mm, unlike the king of the hill Leica, who got left behind.

My wife just purchased a new Honda car with a built-in GPS.

I would not have approved, as I do not like the idea of bundling the car the GPS together.

It is also unlikely to be able to add custom POIs and red light & speed camera information.

I suppose I'll see how well it works on the next major road trip. I do not think Honda would make anything that is junk, but I think it will not compare to my poi-factory enhanced Garmin nuvi.
