Can't lock on to satellite

I am currently in Ireland with my Garmin 1300. I have been unable to lock onto satellites even though the unit shows up to 8 satellites and has at one time indicated locking onto 3 of them without "finding" its own location. Is there anything I can try that might help me lock on?
I have not had any problem with the unit in the US.
I have an Ireland img file installed on the memory card as well as the default map from Garmin.
The problem existed in Dublin, Waterford, and Killarney.

How long?
How long have you left it on? Make sure you have a clear view of the sky and let it search for an extended time. It may take 30 minutes or more the first time, but once it locks, it should acquire more quickly on future startups.

In addition, during that initial acquisition period the unit should be stationary. If you attempt the initial lock while moving it may never happen.

Thanks. I never knew it would take so long. I have only tried it for a maximum of 10 minutes and thought that was quite long. I will give it a go tomorrow. I appreciate the response.

If you can leave it plugged in on the charger near a window before you go out for the day while you are getting dressed it should acquire and once it does you should be good for the day. Always turn it off at the place where you are going to leave from so that it knows where to look. These two things are what I had to do in Spain and they worked fairly well for us.

It looks like a lost cause. I had it on searching for satellites for over 2 hours with no success. Quite a disappointment.
