Just purchased this unit. The magellan web Help? is not much use it seems.
The unit has a mini-SD slot..there is no reference to it in the manual. What is the value ie,.can it be used like one on the Garmin units.
I like the large size but I cannot convert any of the poi's on this site to run on it.
There has been reference here to a file conveter, this unit has none,or at least I can't find it.
I beleive I will return to store. The little Garmin Nuvi 230 seems like it does a better job..
Any ideas appeciated.
Thanks
Magellan is different......

.....Roadmates in particular.
Magellan offers more detailed manuals for some models online; do a little searching for that.
I'm pretty sure that the Roadmate series does NOT support User POIs.....by any means; just won't work.
Sometimes I've wondered why the Roadmate series is still even around. The SD slot on them might be useable only for Magellan supplied maps.

Magellan Roadmate 9055LM
I purchased the Magellan Roadmate 9055LM and have contacted Magellan Tech Support with little help. The 9055 does not come with any software CD (example: Magellan POI File Editor) and support advises me that the unit will not accept user installed poi files. Support also advises that Magellan will not be introducing any Red Light Camera or Speed Trap Camera files for the unit. Unless anyone has had any luck otherwise, I am out of options too.
Magellan 9055LM
I just purchased the Magellan Roadmate 9055LM primarily for the size 7” and the Life time map updates and the life time subscription free TMC.
I am really disappointed in it because you can not add any poi's of any kind. It has an option called one touch which is really useless; it will save a single destination in a folder that you can recall by the one touch option. The POIs loaded in the unit are limited at best and are not very accurate with regard to the POI categories. For example, I reviewed the campground data base in my area the Magellan 9055LM came up with two campgrounds and the rest were Day care and School facilities. I also tried Casinos and got a lot of party/gaming outlet stores The Magellan POI data base is poorly researched and developed that I almost through the GPS out the window but my wife stopped me. The unit also promotes a AAA Tour Book feature that did list a lot of the actual camping facilities in my area. I checked out restaurants with the Magellan but when I tried to call one, using the phone number provided by the AAA Tour Book to see if it was ahead of us rather than back tracking, I got a fax line. The speaker is of such poor quality the sound/voice is very rasping, very mechanical and scratchy sounding. The other thing is it tries to give you about three of four sets of maneuver to negotiate at one time and the text on the maps is as small as a 3.5 screen which kind of losses the purpose of a 7" screen. When I checked with customer support about updates they said you can get four (4) updates a year. When I asked about the last update they said it was in Jan 2011. So they are not doing anything on a quarterly basis with regards to improvement updates. Magellan tech support confirmed that you CAN NOT add any Poi’s of any type, and there is not a console or converter for these units. The SD slot is for Magellan add on that they may come up with in the future. As you can see I am really disappointed in this GPS. For all intent and purposes and price it’s a piece of crap and I’m stuck with it.
Roadmate 9020T-LM User POI Feature
After much research and a number of talks with tech support and pre-purchase contact number the 9020T CANNOT be loaded with user created POI lists.
I was told Magellan eliminated this feature because people were creating red light and speed camera entries to circumvent law enforcement and that Magellan promotes safe driving. All new Magellan products WILL NOT be able to do this as well.
Seems to me that is a step in the wrong direction, I had purchased the 9020T at Costco and can tell you mine is going back as a result of it.
It is a shame Magellan has to be politically correct as they have the only 7 inch portable unit. Well, I guess I will be looking at the Garmin 2460 as a replacement for my old unit.
Magellan.

If true, that is pretty stupid decision making on their part. Even if they could make a legitimate case (which they can't) against alerts for cameras, POI's are used for many things other than camera alerts. It seems this decision will cause their puny PND market share to decline even further.

Returned unit to Costco
Thanks for the replies.I returned the unit.Am lookinga at a Garmin 1490?? (5" screen).
Also Returned Unit to Costco
As soon as I got this home, I tried to transfer my custom POI files from my Maestro 4040 to this new unit.... didn't work. I contacted Magellan who told me the micro SD card is non functional. The tech rep told me there's no way to install my own files. Now I understand why it only cost $150 (Costco Bellingham WA). It's useless as a GPS.
I thought I might try to root it and use different GPS software but decided instead to return it to Costco and get my money back.
I'll keep using my 4040 for now, which has been flawless and research a couple of 7" units on www.dealextreme.com for about $100 or less which include north american maps and appear to be easily modified.
Magellan might just as well exit the GPS business if they're going to start dictating how I use MY GPS!
