If you used say Google Maps or some such and Garmin Communicator Plugin to send the POIs to your Garmin then they will show up in Where to?>Favorites

Downloaded?????

Just want to make sure that "downloaded" does not mean putting POI files (of .csv or .gpx types)from poi-factory onto the GPS unit itself. Those files need to be input into POILoader (from Garmin) and become a .gpi file that is understood by the GPS

Once you have done that then, as charlesd45 has said, you would touch "Where to" ,"Extras" and "Custom POIs" to activate them.

gpx files can be put directly on nuvi GPSr

Direct downloads from Internet sources such as Google Map using the Garmin Communicator Plugin are done by it placing a gpx file into the GPSr's Garmin/GPX folder.

On my 255W and 285W I can manually put a gpx file in that location and the pois from the file will show up in the Favorites list same as when using the Garmin plug-in.

I would think that the OP's 1490LMT will work the same as my Nuvis.
