Nuvi lifetime map deals?

Anyone know of any deals now or upcoming on lifetime maps? The best I have found is $76. I keep hoping to find lower than that price.

Keep looking. About six months ago, Amazon temporarily lowered their lifetime price to $59 and I jumped. Strangely to get that price you had to buy the update code on a physical card mailed to you. The electronic delivery was more expensive, despite there being no plastic card to manufacture and ship.

I have never bought from them. I do not know how they are. It showed up in a price search engine.

Finally made up my mind

Was going to buy lifetime map but bought a Nuvi 2450LM for $182.

I loved my Nuvi 750 but this is so much better. The only thing it doesn't have is the MP3 player and it has so much more.

Used it yesterday for the 1st time and it told us just how much we spent on gas to make the trip.

It even routed us a new and better way than the 750 but the maps on the 750 were from 2007 so that may have made a difference.

Love the Nuvi 2450 and so afraid I would not.

Trying to decide whether to upgrade the map on a nuvi 255w with 2009 maps, but want to wait for the best deal.

2012.10 is the latest

You may want to consider the latest maps if the price isn't that much different. Depending on where you drive, 2009 will not be of much value.

EDIT - misread your post, I took it to mean that you wish to upgrade to the 2009 maps, but instead you currently have the 2009 maps.

If you don't really notice any changes from 2009 when driving around, stick with the maps. If you constantly find that you are on roads that don't exist, it would be worth an upgrade.

If you can hold out until just before Christmas, the map price on Amazon will steadily drop. It went below $59 in 2010 just before Christmas for about three days and then started going back up again.

Autonavdirect is very good

I bought the Garmin lifetime upgrade for $73.99 from http://www.autonavdirect.com/ and was very pleased with the service. I imagine that price will continue to go down, but why wait just to save a couple of bucks? $69.99 is a good deal compared with $89.99 on the Garmin website.

Waiting

I've got a price alert set up on pricespider.com. When the price drops below $60 I'll find out and get LM for my back up 260.

lifetime maps too big

Each time I update my nuvi255 maps on the lifetime deal I am allowed smaller and smaller areas due to lack of device memory. No, pictures no music no nothing stored on device. Of course I can download whole European map to computer and then faff about when I want another country - how very user friendly. Is it beyond the wit of man or Garmin to revise the firmware so that I could have all the data I've paid for on the micro SD ???? I'll pay for the card - I'm not a bad guy. Purchasers of lifetime deal beware.

Or $119.99 that I happened to see in Wal*Mart yesterday while looking for something else! My jaw dropped. The single update cards are $69.99.

Low prices everyday? They have got to be kidding. Don't buy HDMI cables there either.

Check the shipping, when I research these places they seemed to be the same if not higher than Amazon after you added the shipping.

www.autonavdirect.com

Today I ordered the lifetime map update from autonavdirect based on the link that was posted here for $69.99. This is the note I got back.
-------------------------------------------
You ordered an item that is only at the price when you buy a gps unit with it. You need to order the email code one on our site, which is
74.99. This order is not valid when its not purchased with a gps unit.

I will be going back to Amazon now to get it.

I paid $59 from Amazon last December for life-time maps. They will probably do the same this year.

Try the GPS

Try attaching the GPS to your computer, then go to the Garmin site to check for updates to your map.

Are you looking to see if updates are available or do you have lifetime or a paid or free update due you that you're trying to get?

--- --- --- ---

Or do you have a Garmin-produced map on the SD card? The maps loaded by Garmin on to a specific SD card are not updateable--a new preloaded card needs to be purchased:

http://iqc.garmin.com/eCustomer/KODSelfService/request.do?create=kb:garmin&view%28%29=c{16315fb0-39b2-11de-5dd5-000000000000}

Pre-programmed datacards: Pre-programmed datacards are immediately ready to use out of the box. Simply unpack the card and insert it into your compatible GPS device. These maps do not need to be unlocked to your device which allows you to move the card to multiple units if desired, however, you will not directly have access to the mapping on your computer. City Navigator maps in this format are not eligible for map updates. If you wish to obtain updated content, a new card will need to be purchased.

New MAP and New GPS

I purchase my Gps in 2005 and I love it.Never fail me always took me from point A to point B. In 2011 Garmin they come up with 4 version of 2011 Map..the 2011.10-2011.20-2011.30-and the 2011.40 Did I notice any different from all those version? NONE..I felt the same way when you get a Window update for your PC run and look the same before you did the update. One thing I do not like what Garmin does is, they come up with new model that will cost you a fortune, but soon or later your Garmin will be discontinued (like is mine) and you feel like you need to buy a new one.Well as long mine work fine I do not need a new one. And about the Map the road are the same today as last year. The map that I have is the 2011.40 and i am sure it still be working fine for the next few years..

I never figure out yet, why when you are in a parking lot or shopping center your Garmin does not detect the location that you are not till you are on a street?

Because

Because the map data is of streets not parking lots.

The GPS knows exactly where you are, what it doesn't know is any detail about how to get out of the parking lot.

I suppose it could make a guess at how to get from your parking spot to the road but that would probably end up being wrong as many times as it would be right.

Adding parking lot data to the mapset would probably be expensive and make the file a lot bigger when, in fact, we are already looking at a file that's so big it won't fit on many models.

Buy the lifetime maps and be done with it until you need or want a newer GPS. I suppose if you know you'll want a new GPS with extra features, etc. within the next two years, you could skip it but if you plan to keep and use a GPS for more than a couple years, lifetime maps are the way to go. If you do buy a newer better GPS some day, be sure to buy one with Lifetime Maps since the bundled lifetime map price with a new GPS is likely to be less than what you'll pay for a standalone Map Update card plus a GPS.

PS--Welcome to The Factory. There's a lot available here along with its good folks. If you check here routinely, you'll be alerted to special deals on map pricing by some vendors and be alerted when the next map comes out.

Worth it...

I figure the lifetime map price is worth it.

Sure the updates always seem almost irrelevant...but somewhere there are some changes and maybe just maybe they are someplace I am going that I am not familiar with where the update could be a more than just a nice to have..

I only do my updates twice a year though as I find the process dreadfully long for so little return.

However, if I was heading out on a long road trip and I had an update available I would do it.

.

Dpcsurfer wrote:

This is pre-supposing you buy the cheapest unit out. I prefer buying a higher end (not highest) unit that has features I need, and want. For instance, my 775T has 8 gigs of storage. This is a no-hassle advantage for new maps. BT, MP3 playing, and a few others made it attractive.

I buy for the long term, and not the disposable attitude many have these days. It's a money save in the end.

Got my Lifetime Update

I got the update from Amazon a couple of days ago. I did consider upgrading to a unit with lifetime maps included but I did not find a unit that I like as well as the 765T that I have. I want an MP3 player and FM transmitter and that looks like rare things on the new units but the 765 has them. I figure I will probably be using this 765 for a long time since it has the features that I like.

765T

I love my 765T as well. I wonder what will finally convince me to upgrade. Maybe when it breaks or when Garmin won't support it.

I bought an updated map SD

I bought an updated map SD card off ebay to upgrade my wifes old Street Pilot 340 and it was screwed up. Kept trying to get her to go west when she knew she needed to go east type of errors.

She only uses it to get to addresses she's been given that have a claim (insurance adjuster). She didn't want to spend alot so I just bought her a Garmin 100LM (she wouldn't use all the other options anyway on the more expensive models). Seems to be doing the job and we wont have to pay for map updates.

I still love my 880 but I

I still love my 880 but I want a unit that has a removeable battery, it so easy when the unit malfunctions, all I have to do is remove the battery for a few minutes and reinsert it and everything is back to normal. I think Garmin should allow all of their units to have the removeable battery option.

I just checked. There is a $69.99 price with free S&H and "Fulfilled by Amazon*" --it will likely be a long time before it gets better than this--and this deal could be gone by tomorrow for all we know.

Wal-Mart

You have to comparison shop everywhere. Wal-Mart makes a bucket-load off shoppers who think they're getting the lowest price just because they're in Wal-Mart.

depend how often you use it

i found out that lifetime map update is cheaper when buying with the unit

like my 1390 are selling around 199 with the lifetime update
without update is 169
so $30 difference is not brainer that you must buy with the update

even you dont need to update every single time there is a new map
but at least once a year it should be good
