POI alert based on categories

Hi,
This is an example of what I want to achieve.
I would like to have two categories in the Custom POI
1. Starbucks
2. view points, waterfalls etc., along the route.
I know how to create the categories.
But I want to be able to turn proximity alerts on or off independently for these two categories.
In my garmin GPS, I can go to the settings and click on 'Alerts'. It shows 'Custom POIs' with a checkbox. So I can only turn on or off alerts for all the categories. I can't find a way to for example, turn on alerts for waterfalls and not for starbucks etc.
I know that when I load the POIs, I can turn off alerts for starbucks and only on for waterfalls. But I want to be able to choose when I am on the road.
Is that possible?
Thanks
It is all or nothing as far
It is all or nothing as far as turning off.Have you thought about using a silent alert so you will just see it on the screen for the alert?

Is silent alert, all or nothing also?
Thanks for the reply.
So I am assuming this silent alert is also all or nothing right?
I don't remember what was on the option screen. But can I turn off the alert sound on the GPS or do I need to do that when I load the POIs?
I guess garmin safety camera POIs are 'special' because they appear as a separate line on the alerts above the 'Custom POIs'. So I can turn the safety camera alerts off or on independently of the custom POIs.
Using wav and sox.exe you
Using wav and sox.exe you can make a voice alert to sound based on the distance you set.For any custom poi file but just record with no sound.Used to be one on site. See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730 .You are correct once you use the setting on the gps it turns all of them off.Nothing for doing them one by one.
