Backing up a Garmin Nuvi

Hi,

I have read some references here to backing up the files on a GPS.

Is this simply:
1. connect nuvi to computer's usb com port
2. select all files
3. right click and select copy
4. go to a backup folder, right click and select paste

Or is there something better or more complete recommended?

Your unit has at least two partitions. One is the operating system and system files you can't access and the user data. Voices, maps, vehicles and POI are in the user area so this is what needs to be backed up. In some of the newer units there are some "hidden" system files as well. Those need to be backed up too. I believe they are in a .SYS folder, but i don't have one of those units so I can't be certain.

Help me, please.

I accidentally formatted everything on nuvi 350 GPS. Any chance of making the unit works again since all the system files are gone.

How did you activate a "format"?

How do you know the system files are gone?

I was going to format my SD card.

But unfortunately, my gps was also connected via the usb cable at that time. I was careless and clicked format device (my GPS) instead. Now all of the system files are gone because when I clicked on it, it's empty.

@vobro: If you have a backup, do a restore. Otherwise, you will have to contact Garmin for assistance.
