Unlock code not found !

Normally all one would do is to register the unit with Garmin. You'll need to go through the motions and have the unit plugged in. Not sure why you would need an unlock code. When you buy a new Garmin in my experience
it works just fine, right out of the box.

Doesn't really matter does it? If he's missing the card, he needs to contact Garmin.

Did you buy this at a store? Sounds like someone may have removed the card and returned it. You could do the same but see what Garmin says first.

Thanks, Speed. The Garmin works well, but we're trying to use it for geocaching and the map detail is very poor with respect to trails. in addition, the roads in the town are poorly detailed- just highways shown. Is this the way it's supposed to be?

Hi Juggernaut. When you load the MapSource disk, it describes a 25 character unlock code.I'm not sure what it's supposed to do. The Garmin functions, but map detail is VERY poor. Just major highways. No secondary roads, trails, etc. Is this something I have to purchase separately. Using it mostly for geocaching. Thanks for the help !

You have only the base map. It is 6 or 7 years old and not detailed.

So, where did you get the Mapsource disk ??
The unlock code comes with that disk, not with the GPS unit.

It sounds to me like you need a different model for what you want to do.......or actually pay for a map for the one you have.

MapSource disk came with the GPS unit. There is a 10 digit S/N code, on the disk folder, but no 25 digit code as requested to unlock. What does unlocking even do?

benmaxhoffman--What state do you live in? I can forward you a link to a site with free topo maps for Garmin units. I use them on my hand held Colorado 400c which is a marine map handheld which came loaded with the Coastal Blue Chart as its map along with the base map.

The topo I downloaded is more detailed than Garmin's topos and is great for geocaching.

Looks like Motorcycle Mama beat me to it while I was typing. That's the site, just search around for the topo maps for your state and or region.

Check out the photos, you can see it has more detail than the Garmin maps.

The region maps are good, but the individual state maps have more detail.
