Garmin 650

Hi, my daughter has a 650 and the calibration is not working correctly. I hold the on button down until the calibration screen comes on, but no response when I touch the screen. Any suggestions?

Thank you

Just maybe!!!!

It could be time to get her a new updated GPS...Prices have come down so much...you can get an inexpensive one with lifetime maps for a little more than $100...A 1300LM at Costco for $130...If the unit is going bad it is much better to replace it than try to have it repaired or you could try a full reset...

A couple things to try. 1.

A couple things to try.

1. Try hard reset.

2. Try getting in to the pre boot mode. I did it once on my 650 and it got me to a screen to redo the calibration.
"Power OFF your Nuvi. Press and keep holding the most right upper corner of the LCD screen. Power ON your Nuvi but DO NOT release your finger either from Power button nor from LCD screen (keep both pressed until the procedure ends). You will notice Nuvi boots in Pre-Boot mode.

Touch Screen Unresponsive

The touch screen suddenly going unresponsive is a common problem. You'll have to make a basic decision: get it fixed, or buy a new unit. You'll have to decide. There is no "fix" you can perform yourself - the touch screen has gone bad and needs to be replaced.

This same problem recently occurred on my 3-year old 660. I made the decision to get it fixed for 2 reasons: the money spent on lifetime maps which I would lose if I bought a new unit and the fact that I heavily use the mp3 player and the newer units don't have mp3 players anymore. It's been working fine for the couple of months I've had it back since the repair.

Check out the section including Figures 7-10. Your 650 may be one of the problem 6xx models discussed:

That was exactly the problem my 660 developed and Sharc-net (Jim) is the one who fixed it. grin
