I learned how to... (replaced the recalculating message)

...get my wife's Garmin to take the long way home!

No, I'm not crazy...well...any less crazy *grins*

My wife loves the Jack voice and so thanks to the TTS voice editor program, I changed "recalculating" to "You're not listening to me Kathy! I thought it was only men who didn't stop for directions. Let's go this way"

Well, it wasn't long before we were out and on the way home, I suggested using the GPS, she knew the way home, but I wanted to see her face when Jack spoke his piece.

It wasn't long before she took a turn that wasn't on the route and Jack did his thing...

AND!!

She just about fell out of the car laughing. The look on her face was priceless.

My wife gets a laugh when the wav alert for the flushing commode goes off.When we are approaching a rest stop.

Set mine too

Had mine set to "Sorry master, you know better then me master". The boss and my wife both got a kick out of it. Of course the wife did not like it for long term.

Having fun with TTS Voice Editor Too

Please drive to highlighted route is now, "Okay Kevin, we are ready to go. Just follow the little pink line."

Recalculating is now, "Okay. Let me figure out where you are going now."

Its just a little personality!

When Visiting Family

My daughter lives in a large metro area about 100 miles from me. She knows all the shortcuts that the locals use to bypass traffic and, inevitably, she insists that I take advantage of some of them.

When I go to visit her, instead of "recalculating", Karen is always programmed to say: "You've gone astray, again. Janet must be giving you directions."

New Phrases

turboccc is a very talented individual.

We can all thank him for this great method to re-program the standard phrases on the unit.

I have yet to change any of mine, but this story has given me renewed incentive to try it.

Jill Tells Me...

"Try to pay attention next time" when I make a wrong turn. When I have a passenger in the car, usually they ask "What did it say?" but most do find it funny.

My unit never argues with me or cajoles me about the route or turns I make. I just replaced recalculating with a period and enjoy the silence.

We did the same to our kids!

For Christmas a couple years ago, we got each of our kids a GPS. Before we gave them to the kids, I changed some of the things said, such as "recalculating" to other verbage, too.

Then we waited to see who called us first about what was said over the GPS, one of our daughters, or our son! They each had a 1500 mile drive home, so it didn't take long.

Our son called first! He was laughing so hard about it telling him he was "not listening again when I'm talking to you".

It didn't take long after for the daughters to call also, with comments about what their's had said.

They've all left the new verbage in their units, just to give their friends a hoot when they hear something unusual come out of the GPS!

I took the plunge

I changed my 1490 to "You missed the turn"
Sweet. Then I tried the same thing on my 295w. On boot up, I received this message.
