nuvi 13xx and 14xx series (GCD File) software version 5.20

Changes made from version 5.10 to 5.20:

Made several map-drawing improvements.
Fixed several FMI-related issues.
Fixed an error that caused the wrong keyboard to display for certain regions.
Fixed an error that caused audio and Bluetooth features to not function unless the unit was restarted.
Fixed an error that caused the device to prompt users to turn the wrong direction on certain routes.
Fixed an error that caused routes to calculate slowly.

.

Considering Garmin's prior track record, I would strongly suggest you wait a couple of weeks before installing this update.

Have a friend who has no computer and owns the 1300.Brought it home to update for them.Played around with it first. Not a bad unit for starting out.I done the update with no problems. It did change the voice. They had no favorites on it so not sure what may have happen after a update.Good idea to make copy of your favorites before updating. One thing for sure it sure locks on the satellites fast.

Amen to that, brother. I've been in the habit of installing changes as soon as they've become available, but given Garmin's track record lately, I think I'll wait for others to suffer the slings and arrows.

Thanks for heads up. I've updated my unit and after playing with it for a while in simulation mode I get feeling that there are more details present on the map than before. Calculation is definitely quicker. Bad side is that all of my favorites are showing on the screen as a black square. The icons are gone. I tried to restore the favorites from my back-up file, or even to manually change the icons, but I couldn't get it done. We'll have to wait for a new firmware update grin

Same here.

This seems to happen to me with every update. I have decided not to get them back. As for other functions, I haven't found a problem.

This once again shows that Garmin either does not test or has very poor testing for their firmware updates...bad Garmin.

Updated 1390

Works fine with update.

So far so good

Just got back from my first trip using my 1490T with the update to 5.20. I did not notice any problems and found one thing that caused a little frustration at first. The "Trip Log", aka "bread crumbs" used to display immediately and with a thick blue line. I did not notice the new version until I turned my unit back on when I left my original destination. It is now a thin, dashed blue line that no longer covers most of the road on the display. We'll see if any of the other minor quibbles I've had are resolved, but so far so good.

Update

I am going to try this update since no problems have been reported so far.

Software Update

I just updated the software on my Nuvi 1490T. It took 2 times to get "My Dashboard" to recognize it had the latest software. It seems to be working OK!?!

I also make use of the bread crumb trail. It is now a dashed blue line. Looks good smile

New bug

OK found a new bug today. I was heading home using a route. When I passed a waypoint used to direct the route the way I want to go, the unit crashed & rebooted. When it came back up the route was still active. I pressed the map icon and it crashed and rebooted again. This time I pressed the "Stop" button and then selected "Home" as my destination. No problem the rest of the way there. I've never had a crash-reboot issue before.

Reboot

I had a reboot today, never had one before. This was at a position where I have passed a number of times, before the last update.

I had done a hard reset after the update.

5.20

Since the recent software download on my nuvi 1490T, when I am driving down the street, all the poi's are shown on the map(like in mapsource). It never did this before! I can't figure out if this is good or bad??!! Any Ideas??

Update the Good the bad and the Ugly..........

I was having issues with my Garmin not powering up with sound (1390t).

So I tried the upgrade:

The Good: The Upgrade seemed to have fixed that, its faster calculating locations.

The Bad: when I drive around now and stop Icons magically show up on the screen for stuff around me, Now I ain't no genius but I can see the stuff around me What about stuff farther away.

The Ugly: When I add favorite to the Garmin and then go in and edit a favorite and add a Canned Icon for let’s say a hotel or building ALL YOU GET is a BLACK DOT. No matter what Icon you pick the standard black do goes on the map. AH AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH.....

While routing my GPS wasn't showing POI's around me even when zoomed to 200 ft or closer. Now it does. Not big of a deal, just noticing.

Elig99 wrote:

That certainly is the case today. Up until a few weeks ago you could download most older firmware version from Garmin servers if you knew the link format, even if Garmin Support would tell you that they only keep the latest version there. Now it appears that only the most current firmware version is available.

For example, earlier this month all of these links were active for 3790 firmware releases:

http://www.garmin.com/software/nuvi37xx_regionfileonly__250....
http://www.garmin.com/software/nuvi37xx_GCDFile__360.gcd
http://www.garmin.com/software/nuvi37xx_GCDFile__390.gcd
http://www.garmin.com/software/nuvi37xx_GCDFile__400.gcd
http://www.garmin.com/software/nuvi37xx_GCDFile__410.gcd

Now only the 410 link works.

Bluetooth performance has definitely improved since the last update. Now the phone doesn't have to be paired again and again.

Software Version 5.30 issue

I'm not sure if there is another posting about 5.30 on this site but I'd like to know if anyone else shares this issue.

I have about 50,000 custom POI loaded on a Nuvi 1490T (loaded with the Garmin POI Loader). I can not touch the custom POI on-screen and have the information pop-up about that particular POI. The POI that are pre-loaded on the Garmin as well as address points when you touch the map populate with all the information. It is just the Custom POI that are not responding.

I have another Nuvi 1490T that is still using 5.10 software and there is no problem touching the Custom POI icons on-screen and having the information pop-up on-screen.

If anyone has any experience or thoughts on this, please respond!
Thanks!
