Bill to repeal Florida's red-light cameras squeaks by in first Senate panel

true

I expect easier passage of such measures, in some ways, since many municipalities are finding their taxation, errr, safety ticket incomes going -down- due to these.

We need Red Light & Speed Cameras - for the children!

[ahem]

Repeal cameras

One reason that the bill (might) pass is that most deputies don't like them.
With the cameras they don't get the gold pass.
They are under the same laws as the rest of us.

Florida Red Lights

Boy the Mayor of St.Petersburg will be mad if this passes at a recent council meeting they had discussions on putting up red light cameras and he seemed determined to get them put in even though most people talked against them.

Refunds

Another interesting issue I heard brought up in a recent Lakeland City Commission meeting was the subject of refunding people who had previously received the fines if the legislature does indeed declare the red light cameras unconstitutional and repeals them.

The city is now planning for this and has supposedly from the beginning set aside all revenue from the red light cameras in a special account should this happen.
