Help too many warnings!

I hear very well. I can compute distance, space and time in my head (well close enough). Why do I have to be warned twice of a pending turn? How do you cut down on all the stupid alerts, warnings. I do not have to be told twice, much less THREE or FOUR times about a coming event! The first time I used a street pilot I turned off the voice alerts. Tell me one time thats it. How stupid (senile) do the programmers think we are? I finally was just using the beeps, no voice. With the 7200 there are no color screen changes. The Icons are to small to notice coming poi's. Maybe mp3's with single word alerts might help. That's the biggest problem with poi's for me.

Solution might be changing key words in the POI title.

Does anyone know what key words, create fewer warnings?

Really! Really! Thank you for this one. POI's are great, but not to here alert again and again and again and again, give be a break!

You're not the average GPS

You're not the average GPS user, and it's the average user that GPS manufacturers build the firmware for. The really smart user will be able to gauge distance without help of the GPS. The really stupid user will drive their rental car onto train tracks only to watch the car get demolished by the oncoming train instead of paying attention and seeing the road running parallel to the tracks.

There are no keywords to reduce the number of warnings you get.

.

Use the poi loader, or EPE to change the alert distance for poi's. You can't do much about turns, though.

Thank you! I value your comments.

I must build my home as a poi and test deferent, key words and or warning distances. I thought, I may not be along in this dilemma and others have found ways to reduce the annoyance. Maybe I'll start a grid of key words and distances that may help others.

Question:
One thing that would help is knowing any tricks to test poi's without driving around with a gps to test poi's.

Thanks again,

Turn GPSr off, simulate mode.

Both of my Zumo models include Tools>Settings>System>GPS Simulator/GPS mode. Turning the receiver off makes the devices operate in simulation mode.

Can't please all of the people all of the time, patience is a virtue; There might be some time when you are distracted and say, "What did she say again?"
Then you will appreciate the next multiple alert.

I think I found the answer.

I think I found the answer. Somewhere here is a link to an mp3 editor. Another place has silent mp3 sounds in times. Take the editor and add silence to the end of the mp3 sound. Maybe 15 to 60 seconds will get me past the points the poi kicks off for the third, forth and fifth times. I will build one and re-load the poi. I'll report back on the results.

That's a neat approach to the problem. I hope there aren't cameras closer than 60 seconds apart.

Thanks,

In you unit setup you can specify if alerts are given once or they repeat. It sounds as if your unit repeats. The other thing is to check if you have ANY numbers in your file names. These will set a speed alert and cause the alarm to continuously repeat if you are going faster than the value of the digit(s) in the file name.

Thanks Box Car

Thank you for a great site.

I used the sound editer I linked to in a previous post. I used a Red light MP3 sound file I got here adding a 30 second Silence Alert to the end of the file. I think I hit it on the botton. Now instead of "5" sound alerts, I get 1. I did get stopped at the light and while I waited I got a second alert which was fine. The next light I got one alert stopped at the light then turned right, only one alert. No alerts leaving. PERFECT!

I'll let you know as scenarios change, and I make any changes.

I would prefer not to have so many red light alerts. One would be enough for each light.

Your my hero today Gary A

Just what I'm looking for.

The link to Audacity (sound editor) works great to convert or change .wav or .mp3 fils. Because mp3 file conversion is copy protected, there's a couple things to get the free editor to work. Just move files around, no coding.

WAV Format

Since most of those sound bites were already in wav format, they will probably be easier to use for owners of newer GPS models. Most of the GPS models sold today no longer have mp3 players and therefore have to use wav audio files.
