Disappointed with Garmin traffic reports on 1490LMT

I forget who it is who provides the traffic service for Garmin on this GPS. All I know is that it isn't cool when you are on the interstate going through a major city stuck in traffic and the GPS is telling you it is smooth sailing. For Pete's sake! It might be time to take this thing back and keep looking for a different GPS.

It warns if you are on a route or even with no route.

I have a 1450LMT and wish I had saved a few bucks and just got the LM model. I have had it warn me of traffic ahead and never saw a thing and I have encountered heavy traffic when the icon was green. I tend to ignore it.

One question I have is what is the radius for the traffic icon? Is it referring to traffic within 5 miles of your current location, 10 miles or just anywhere on your route that it has info for?

If traveling a route it warns you of traffic along the route. If I am not on a route, it warns me of traffic in the area.

One caveat is that "traffic" is a misnomer. The warnings are worthless as everyone states. There is no accuracy at all. I ignore it while at the same time get a good laugh. I will say it is accurate about warning me about the 1 second backup at the thruway entrance though. LOL

Traffic on a Nuvi 660

I'm Hot and Cold about the traffic on our 660, too.

It's Paid For (Lifetime) so it's less of an issue than if I was paying yearly....

Probably if it was something that needed to be paid, I probably would let it lapse....

Map upgrades have been a positive thing..... But not so for Traffic... Agree with others it isn't timely enough, and only hits the "Big" things.

The only saving grace was the Lifetime Traffic was on sale at the time we bought it... And it's long paid for!!!

Traffic

Just a gimmick to get more money from you (more expensive unit) and probably Garmin is getting something from the ads diplayed because of the traffic feature!!!

I have traffic avoidance checked on my navigation options and today is the first day that my NUVI gave an alternate route due to traffic.

In NYC it is probably good 70 or 80% of the time. I jut got the 1490LTM at Crutchfield and I like it. I bought a 2012 Nissan Rogue with all the options including Navigation and I got to say it sucks big time (the Nav).

I'm glad I didn't get options just for nav, mostly for the other stuff ( heated seats smile moon roof, etc. ) in the package. The nav is truly a POS. I can't even type a name in like Sears or Target. The traffic on it is almost non-existant.

Came up from Delaware and Garmin showed me traffic on NJ turpike. When I turned on radio they said 10 mile backup due to big accident. Built in nav showed nada. Was able to get off and avoid thanks to Garmin traffic.

Cheers

no good

The 2350LMT is always wrong with traffic, it's not usable. On the other hand, XM Traffic was dead on, but we only had it free for 3 mos.

Garmin traffic is what it is, and unfortunately, not much. You don't want to bet your commute on it.

3790LMT and traffic

I have the Garmin 3790LMT and GTM 35. I have both the free Navteq and paid-for Clear Channel traffic subscriptions. I noted that I have only yellow and red traffic flow indicators.
I am in Louisville, KY. I rarely might see green for roads that are otherwise typically red/yellow (to show is is better than normal). In all cases, the flow lines are narrow and very hard to read. The default theme is "orange roads", so I changed that to British Blue for better contrast.
[My old MSN Direct Traffic map showed all area highways and some secondary roads as green, yellow, and red. It also meant you knew where there was no coverage.]
This Navteq/Clear Channel method is clearly inferior, and I am disappointed.

No perfect system.

There are no perfect system unless all cars are in a cloud system that share real time traffic information.

The past 6 months the traffic (NYC area) has improved. More roads are covered and the information is more current.
