download POI files

I have faithfully following the Beginners steps to get my Garmin set up.

Step one and Step two were fairly easy.

Now I got to step three. I tried to download a POI file and have problems.

I created a new file and named it "My POI" as suggested. When I went to download the Rest Areas file, I clicked on Garmin then it immediately downloaded to a separate file. I don't know how to get it to download TO my POI file.

Can anyone help and tell me what I am doing wrong?

MyPOI needs to be a folder,

not a file. Then download as many POI files as you wish and put them in the My POI folder. When you run POI Loader, point it to your My POI folder and it will load all files contained in the folder.

Download POI files

I knew that was what I had to do.

I created the folder as instructed. Then went to download the file. When I clicked on Garmin, the file went immediately to Excel. I did not see any way to direct it to my folder.

How do I do direct the download to that specific folderd 6 e.

Saving POI files

On POI Factory, when you click the "download" button for a POI file, a window pops up asking whether you want to open the file or save it. If you click open the file, that is why Excel opens it. That doesn't get you anywhere.

Choose to save it and then browse to the folder on your computer where you want to save it permanently. For recommendations on the arrangement of folders and subfolders and where to put each POI file you download, see my FAQ for the simplest explanation -

This also explains how to use POI Loader to load the POI files into the GPS.

What platform/browser are you using? If Windows, try right clicking on the link, then "Save target as ...".
