Capacity to Download

I am new to this GPS system. I just bought a Garmin Nuvi 255W. I downloaded the latest maps when I bought it.
Now, how much space is left for downloading of files from POI? Could we overload the GPS? Could downloading large files eventually slow down the GPS while in use?
Thanks for any enlightenment someone can provide.

Plugin the GPS, open my computer, and then right click to see the properties. It will give you total used and free space.
If you can, use an SD card to load POI's on to save drive space. You can also delete unneeded voice, text, help, and vehicle files to free up space later on.
No, you can't overload the GPS. The unit should not slow down as it has solid state memory.
