Files that need commas removed to work with POI Loader 2.60

Please post the link to the POI File that needs to have commas removed in order to be loaded with the new POI Loader 2.60.

It doesn't appear

It doesn't appear to be a horrendous task to fix those files that have loading problems using version 2.6.0.

The only field that cannot have a comma is the name field or Column C, The new version of POI Loader has no problems with commas in the 4th column or Description field.

Try this test for yourself:
-86.152627,34.197973,Dales, BBQ,"10850 Al hwy. 168,Boaz, AL 35957,(256) 593-1168"

and

-86.152627,34.197973,Dales BBQ,"10850 Al hwy. 168,Boaz, AL 35957,(256) 593-1168"

The first entry will load, but the POI Name will be Dales and the Description BBQ. For the second, the name will be Dales BBQ with the address, city, etc. as the description.

The only difference between the two is the name field - after the Latitude, has a comma.

Good news!

Good news! It is not a big problem if it applies only to column 3. The most important place to have commas is in column 4.

Box Car, in your first example, you made a 5 column CSV. Maybe you meant to put double quotes around "Dales, BBQ"...

.

Turboccc - would you be able to create a program for this site which could automatically scan csv files to confirm there are no commas in the 3rd field?

Since this site is composed of user-created POI files there has to be some way we can insure new files confirm to the "no comma in 3rd field rule".

If the file contains only

If the file contains only three fields, then it will allow commas in the third field. It allows commas in the last field only.

3rd column is 4 columns? Did I say this was a BUG? LOL!

Yes, I can make a program that Miss POI can run on her side. I do not know how/where files are stored on POI Factory, but if Miss POI has a direct file access, I can make the program to scan all folders and sub-folders. Since I can parse CSV files, I can detect and correct fields that have a comma in them. The same program could be available for everybody to scan their own files.

I think it would be a good thing if you could make a program that each of us with poi files could fun on our own. Great ideal and good job. Thanks

Yep.

Yep. Forgot the double quotes.

Actually I had both lines in the same CSV file. The first line truncated at the comma following Dales.

This can be done with Excel

This can be done with Excel by high-lighting the third column and doing a "fine" and "replace" to fine all the "," and replace all with a space.

A question Turboccc. What about some of the files that may have to many characters in column c?I emailed Garmin to find out how many characters are to many? How about authors who have only 3 columns using c for comments such as address etc.Need to pull the commas out and replaced with a space so they don't run together.

Column truncation and comma replacement

Both pose no problem. I can adapt to the final decision. Even EPE will warn about those issues or correct them automatically.

Max column size

Their answer will be: "they don't know"!

It seems it is not related to the length of the column, but to the number of chatacters in columns 3 and 4. If you have less characters in column 3, you can put more in column 4.

The maximum number of characters available for both columns 3 & 4 is...

1024 characters!
