A new question again for the 295w

I looked up youtube videos to see how to find the current map version on the gps. And for anyone familiar with it the 295w doesn't have tools>settings>maps. nor does it have settings>maps. Any idea at how to get to it? it seems garmin has updated a few different things on this as I also cannot get to the satellite info screen nor the other test screens that you see in youtube videos. Sorry once again guys I'm doing my best to pull as much information as possible by search youtube and google but when I come up empty handed I find my self back here bugging you guys again.

295w

I pulled up the owners manual http://static.garmincdn.com/pumac/nuvi295W_OwnersManual.pdf on page 57 for maps listed under Map info.

For satellite info page 59 under viewing detail gps signal information.

Troy, from what I have experienced on this site, the only dumb question is the one that is not asked.
The members have been proven as helpful in every way.
That is why I keep coming back to the site so often.

Thank you very much! Spot on I don't know how I over looked both of them things. I already had the manual and did a search through it but over looked it. Thanks again.

Not a problem.Report back with a overview on your 295w after you have used it a while.Sure lots of members would be interested.I would like to hear some feedback on the volume while in use on the road in the car.I have thought several times about getting one but reviews talk about the low volume issue. Can't always go by the reviews. They said the same thing about the 265wt but in real use I had to lower the volume on mine.

Actually I have found it to be surprisingly nice and loud and I'm practically deaf lol. compared to many other reviews I read about it. The navigation voices are loud and clear. As well the MP3 player is also nice and loud. I do have my volume up on %100 percent for both. And while navigating when the GPS has something to say it stops the MP3 player and then when it is done the music automatically picks up where it left off.

Also as of this post I am

Also as of this post I am using the nuvi =) and navigating quite well with on here. Just cant view video with it lol.

You are in good company

Troy, my 295w arrived yesterday. After the 4-hr first charge, I started playing with it, too. I was interested in finding the sat. signal page but especially wanted to find the map page to see what version I have--it's 2010.20, by the way, but since it's a backup GPS for me, I'll wait to do my free map upgrade till 2011.40 comes out in the next couple of weeks, I hope. I had to dig into the Owners Manual to find each. Even now, I may stumble 3-4 times trying to re-find these almost hidden pages.

On the other side, I'm amazed at how easy it was to set up wifi and my POP email. I had expected issues but found that I could connect to my home wifi (with WPA2 security) as well as to a public unsecured wifi immensely easily. Even more amazing was setting up the 295w to retrieve and send email via my internet provider's POP email. Amazing. I was also very pleased to see that the 295w can open many types of email attachments, something I hadn't expected. I was also please to see that retrieving email on the 295w leaves the message on my ISP's server so that when I get home to my primary PC, I can again retrieve the email for archiving, etc.

All in all, the 295w wouldn't be my first choice for GPS navigation in a car but it is a great backup unit--and is a real treat to use on the road for following email messages and such with a wifi connection. Maybe I'm just so enthusiastic since I heard here at POI Factory that Amazon had the 295w on sale for under $65 recently.

The 3MP camera and compass make me think I may want to take it with me on day hikes along with my eTrex, too. With a wifi connection, the weather page for local and distant cities is fun as well.

I was suprised that there were no firmware updates but did find about three voice updates for it with WebUpdater. No issues registering it or seeing when my 1-free-map-update offer expires. Ditto for copying my Favorites and installing my POI Factory POI, audio and icons with POI Loader.

One last point for whoever's still reading this. For folks looking for spare batteries for this unit, I believe the 295w uses the same battery as the nuvifone G60. A search on eBay for nuvifone batteries shows a couple of suppliers selling them at a steep discount to Amazon's prices, etc. I bought two. I'll report back if I have a problem with them.

I read the manual but missed both, too.

Agreed

Yep exactly. And on your earlier review of the unit I couldn't agree more, Nice review! Does your screen blur on the right side when you press on the screen?
