Where is the next?

I was trying to updated mapsource and poi loader. downloaded the updates. did the web update for installing then got a window asking to click next but it never shows up. i have to use task manager to delete window. it responds that the program is not responding. i am installing these as the administrator. Any suggestions ?

Windows?

I assume you are installing in Windows - 7 or XP? I am not quite sure of your problem, but try rebooting your computer and install again.

Are you using 2.6.0? Look at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/31996 and see if maybe you are having a similar problem. You may want to try an older version.

You have two different programs listed. Which one is the one giving you the error? If it's Mapsource, that's a 2GB download and can take a couple of hours depending on your connection speed. In that case, "patience Grasshopper, patience!"

Where do you get asked to use Next?

WebUpdater is used to update the software and misc items on your Garmin, you don’t use it to update MapSource or POILoader.

To update MapSource , open MapSource, click on “Help” and click on “Check for software updates”.

To update POILoader, go here: http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99...

Exactly where in these steps are you being asked to click on next? What is the operating system on your computer?

Newversion

I deleted the new version and replaced it with the old version. A lot of trouble with the new one.

When I used it, it would not remove the old files, just added the new ones on the end. It also kept giving me messages that there was a problem with file on my computer. There is nothing wrong with the files. I have been using them with the old version without any problems.
New is not always better!

Please be specific

Rather that using words like "it" and "the new version", please be more specific. Do you mean MapSource, POI Loader, webinstaller or map updater?

"remove the old files"? Please be specific and describe what files are not being removed or new ones added.

???

I wish I could help, but I'm having trouble following exactly what your problem is......we need more specific details such as:
Operating system (Win-blows XP, Vista, Mac OS...etc)
Browser (Firefox, Windows Exploder, Google Chrome, etc (BTW- I've had similar problems with older versions of Firefox)
...and most importantly -what are you trying to download......I'm on 20Mbps Broadband, and it still takes me a couple of hours to download Maps...Garmin's servers are notoriously slow at times, and the "next" button won't show up until the entire file has been downloaded.

Patience is a virtue - especially when you are on Dial-up

web updater

i was updating all of these programs (not at the same time). I get to the Garmin install window where it tells me to click on Next to continue. It seems to freeze there. Mapsource also did the same thing. I use Vista. POI loader also has this window.

on high speed

it downloaded the update then it ran the Garmin webupdater and did its download. the next step is the Garmin install window where it asks to click on Next to install nut the next does not appear

Here's a thought

Given that you're having similar failures with several installation issues, maybe it's a Windows problem. This thread talks of errors caused by an incomplete or corrupt Microsoft .NET Framework and corrupt Windows Installer (see the 8/14 reply by mbrun in particular):

Good luck.

[Edit] Bummer, looks like you will need to copy and paste the above https link manually into your browser.

i updated the ms .net

i updated the ms .net framework as per instructions on Garmin support site. Downloaded the Garmin Mapsouce update and got as far as the black and white Garmin window which instructs me to click on Next to install. But there is no visible Next on the window to click onto.

More thoughts

Peter, since you're using MS Vista, is there any chance that there's a Vista UAC (User Account Control) window hiding under the visible windows open now? If so, UAC may be requesting an approval before things can proceed with the Garmin installation. You can either look for a hidden window or temporarily/permanently disable UAC and see what happens. Although I'm not one, many Vista and Win7 folks here have UAC permanently turned off on their PCs. [Just to be super-thorough, if you're running on a small monitor or laptop, is ther any chance the full Garmin update window is not being displayed? If not, you may just need to move the window to get the portion where the "Next" is residing to be shown. As I remember, this Garmin Update window is larger than the normal small window used by other programs when being installed making the Garmin's window's right/left/lower edge fall off the visible screen. Please ignore this silly suggestion if the full Garmin window is being displayed.]

There's also still the possibility of a corrupt or outdated Windows Installer. Or, since Installer is a Windows Service, it may not be running. Have you run Windows Update to see if there are any important updates needed by your Vista PC?

I suppose there's also the possibility of a antivirus/antimalware/firewall issue from your PC preventing the updates from working.

Then again, maybe it's time to contact Garmin Support by email or phone.

If you do find a solution, please let us know that it's working now and what the fix was.

I'm still thinking it's something on your PC, either a Vista or added software issue, since the problem exists for you with several software installations...unless, that is, that you're not seeing the full Garmin update window--and the portion with the "Next" is hiding offscreen.

I can't check this on my PC since all my software is up to date, but I think I remember the window that you say is missing the "Next" button. I think the "Next" button is alonside the "Exit" button. Are you able to see the "Exit" button? What choices are you given buttons for when you get stuck?

Once again, good luck.

ok,

do this ,
extract using 7 zip to a folder on your desktop, then open said folder and use the MSI TO INSTALL, issue fixed there is this issue with some windows 7 this is what i have to do to install mapsourse and maps updates..this will work on xp, vista, and win 7, make sure that you use a different folder for map update and mapsource

Everyday is a GREAT day :)

The Garmin installer window

The Garmin installer window is centered on screen without Next or Exit. the only way for me to remove this window is to use the task manager to end the program.

The Garmin programs I have now work fine. It might be nice to upgrade

possible hidden window??

You can bring hidden windows to the foreground by doing an "Alt-Tab" (hold the Alt key down, then the Tab key) ..if there are multiple or hidden windows, you can cycle through them that way. I've had Vista do some strange things like that in the past.
Give it a try, that may be your problem.

tried that. the Garmin

tried that. the Garmin window remains on top of all applications. the cursor has no effect on it. As i noted before, the only way to remove it is with the task manager. The one possibly for this problem may have to with Garmin registration. I never purchased mapsource. i was able to do that when i registered my nuvi 255w. but i should be able to update the poi loader
