The newly-released POI Loader 2.6 will not allow a comma in the POI name field. This is a change from the previous version.

Here's one way to correct the errors:

There are 98 occurrences of "California, Nevada & Utah" in the POI name field of the AAA Office Locations CSV file. Change them all to "California Nevada & Utah" (remove the ","), save the file then re-run POI loader.

Thanks

there is probably this same issue with other files that have commas, etc.

You can correct them

You can correct the ones you download, but it does no good until the maintainer corrects them. If the errors in the files are not corrected on the site we are going to continue to have problems. We will never get the issues resolved.
You can open the file in excel, do a search for the comma in that field and replace with a "space".

POI loader 260

I have found that the new POI Loader will not allow commas in the third (name) field when there are four fields in the file. However, if the file contains only three fields, it will allow commas in that field. It seams that it only allows commas in the last field only.
I would hope Garmin fixes that on the next release of POI loader.

3 fields is not enough. I prefer to have an address with phone number. Just having a name does no good. There is not enough info.

I posted Garmin's response to my letter to them about the problem with the latest software you can read it and other letters on this web site.Just do a search for poi loader or version 2.6.0

This is a Garmin issue

Does anyone know if Garmin has acknowledged that there are problems with 2.6 of the Loader? We users should not have to change source data to accommodate software errors in a vendor's code. I spent a professional lifetime at IBM working with their software and I can tell you that if a function worked at an earlier release but no longer worked at a later release, IBM considered that an error and fixed it. The only exception is if they documented the change beforehand.

Read my letter just above yours.Do a search on this site for poi loader update 2.6.0 this should answer your question

message from AAA Office Location file maintainer

I updated the AAA Office Location file by removing the comma after "California" for the "AAA No California, Nevada & Utah" club locations.

I intend this fix to be TEMPORARY until the POI Loader issue gets corrected.

Just interested

Dave, why does the file require the comma after California? Would some other seperator such as slashes not work?

Who knows when this will be fixed by Garmin.

Sorry to nit-pik.

To Hell with English Grammar says Garmin

I guess Garmin has put itself above proper English grammar by not allowing us to use the bloody comma where it rightfully belongs.
