Headphone Jack Longevity

Having just bought a Nüvi 310, that is "As quiet as a Whispered Prayer" :-(, it's looking likely that I'm going to have to connect it to external speakers, in some form or another.

The question is: how robust is that Headphone Jack? - Does anyone have experience of plugging and unplugging it on a daily basis?

On cheap MP3 players (and not so cheap ones that say "Creative" on the front ;-), this seems to be a common failure point - I'm worried the Nüvi jack might be equally delicate...

You could add a short

You could add a short extension cable and plug the speakers into that leaving the cable plugged in on a daily basis.

Great minds think alike :-)

That's what I'd been doing with the C510's USB socket - the original one lasted 2 weeks and the whole unit had to be replaced.

The only thing that puts me off doing a similar thing with the Nuvi's headphone jack, is that I might negate some of its portability, if I end up with a lead dangling from it. I'll have to do some research and see what's available in the way of adaptors & leads.

I did try pairing it with my Bluetooth headset - it can certainly see it, but it asks me to enter "1234" on the 'phone' :-)

I'll be interested to hear if people think it is a problem, constantly re-plugging...
