Backing up Firmware

Is there a way to back up the original firmware ?

Planning to upgrade to latest firmware, usually
its good to keep a copy of the original just in case.

Got some questions for experienced ppl.
(if NOT using the web updater)

1) Do you download the update directly to the device or
the SD card in the gps

2)Is there a way to downgrade to a lower firmware version?

thanks

You didn't mention which GPS you have. I've done the following with a nuvi 350.

I dragged and dropped the whole nuvi drive (as displayed in Windows Explorer) to a folder on my hard drive.

1. Download the update to a folder on your computer (or the desktop will work). Connect the GPS, run the update, and it should find the GPS and install it.

2. I haven't tried to copy my backup over the nuvi data. But I have installed an older version upgrade to the nuvi 350 when I was playing with the linebreak display problem. You usally lose all of your personal settings when going backward. I download all of the older version updates I could find so I'd have a better chance of having a good one.

Hope this helps.

that helps

Sorry I forgot, I have the c530

But the question was a general one. For all
garmin models.

So you can downgrade if you have some of the older
version updates.

Garmin Units - Firmware

Check out a site called "gpsinformation.net".

I know that there is a spot on there somewhere, where the site admn keeps previous versions of software for several units.

I can't tell exactly where, but I know it's there.

Hopefully, your model number will be there.

Or... check out the Garmin site itself and download and save the "current" software for your model. That way, when you upgrade your unit software, you can go back and load the older version if you don't like the newer version for whatever reason.

WOW

Thanks its just what I was looking for.

Just wanted to have a backup of my current firmware
incase anything went wrong when updating

What MM lead you to, I

What MM lead you to, I believe will work. however, I know for sure that copying your Garmin directory back onto the garmin isn't going to put you back to the original firmware version.

Now here is the real question, does it work? We need someone that has 5.5 version to down grade their unit back to 5.4 using the exe. Any volunteers?

Hey,
do you just run the older firmware and it will
roll-back the software to that version

Yeah, just run it. It will

Yeah, just run it. It will pop up a message on your GPSr that you are installing an older version. Just hit "Yes" and you will be good to go.

I tried to get an older version for my 2730 just now, and all of the files for the 2730 on

Are there any other sources for the previous versions ?

Thanks, Tim
