anyone know where i can get discounted map updates for a nuvi? i still cant believe they cost as much as they do. i havent updated my maps since i got it about 2 years ago and id like to at least get the 2010 maps.
i think its almost wrong to allow drivers to drive with the wrong maps.
Map Updates
Try Amazon.com. They usually have really good prices. I think the cost of the lifetime updates is very reasonable, considering what a single map update costs.
pull over

I got pulled over last week by state trooper and gave me a ticket for driving with an outdated map from 2006, can't imagine how much the fine could have been had I left the GPS home.
Garmin 38 - Magellan Gold - Garmin Yellow eTrex - Nuvi 260 - Nuvi 2460LMT - Google Nexus 7 - Toyota Entune NAV
Lowest price I have found
Lowest price I have found for lifetime map updates is $73 w/free shipping at this link
http://www.beachcamera.com
I have never purchased from them but was told on another thread that they are reliable.
Garmin 1490T and Tom Tom In-Dash Eclipse II
They are onsale frequently...

Lowest price
I bought lifetime for 59.00 before Christmas in Amazon
Keep your eyes peeled at Amazon
I also did the lifetime update at Christmas for $59. I would check here often and keep your eyes on Amazon for deals.
They are likely worth the $80....but at $59 it was a sure thing.
Beach Camera
They've been fine for me, mostly flash memory cards bought through Amazon and supplied by BC. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them.

lifetime
Lot of gps makers offer lifetime maps for the life of the unit. I heard others say that if you buy a GPS that comes with lifetime maps, you can use the map on another GPS you already own. I believe you can update up to 4 times a year.
Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.
i thought there was an issue w/ amazon??
someone said that the maps sold on amazon wouldnt register correctly.. for garmin maps at least.
A pedestrian is someone who thought there were a couple of gallons left in the tank.
There was a single issue long ago

Quite some time ago (1-2 years?), Amazon had a stellar deal on lifetime map updates via an Online Code purchase (as opposed to the mailed "credit card" lifetime purchase). The price was super low and many folks bought the Online Code version but found that there was a problem for a couple of days getting Garmin's servers to accept the subscription. It was eventually worked out and I've not heard of a similar problem.
So for now, if Amazon offered lifetime updates via Online Code at a really great price, I'd go for it if I needed one. And for the "credit card" purchase (which oddly is usually priced under the Online Code price at Amazon), Garmin will never know where you bought the card so there can never be an issue with Amazon-shipped cards.
Long story short: buying a numaps lifetime update from Amazon either as a "credit card" or Online Code is going to be no different than buying from another vendor or straight from Garmin--except for price. Buy what's cheapest when you're ready to buy.
