1490 loss of voice

I have a new Garmin 1490LMT. I lost the voice the other day. It was very cold that morning. After several minutes I powered it off then on and it came back fine. Anyone else experience this problem? Just wondered if this is a common problem. I have the latest firmware.

I have not.

Just be sure and see if you have a tts voice checked. I have a 1490 and have never experienced that problem.

Had the same problem

Not sure what caused it unless it was too cold sitting in the car during winter. The sound did come back when the car warmed up. I must have checked the mute box 6 times before I new it had a problem. Only happened once but I don't take it out of the glove box unless we are going on a trip.

Thanks. It only happened the one time and it was very cold. Hopefully it won't happen again.

Operating Temperature

The Garmin manual states the operating temperature of a 1490 is between 32 and 140 degrees F. This could be the reason you did not get any sound. Maybe you could e-mail Garmin and ask customer seavice.

operating temp

That is the operating temp. It is far worse when it is not operating. Really shouldn't leave it out in the extreme cold.

I have the same problem and

I have the same problem and it doesn't matter if it's cold or not. It's been happening more often and only notice it when I know that I'm coming to a turn soon and the garmin doesn't say a thing. That's when I turn the gps off then back on. Then the voice comes back.

Never had a loss of voice

Never had a loss of voice and it's been -30s on and off here

Have you set up and are using EcoRoute? If so, there are issues with ecoRoute working for long periods of time on a 1490T.

ecoRoute?

I have the red, yellow, green leaf indicator working does this mean I am using ecoRoute?

A work around for voice loss on 1490T

Yes -- I have a work around for you that worked for me, all thanks to another poster who enlightened me.

1) connect up your Nuvi to your computer.
2) Set your file manager to see hidden files and folders - this is critical, since the system files are hidden.
3) open file manager to look at directories on your Nuvi.
4) under the ".system" dir, you will see a "SQlite" directory - open the SQlite directory.
5) scroll down to the file named "mlg_history.db"
6) forever delete the mlg_history.db file
7) safe remove your Nuvi from your computer
8) upon restart, the Nuvi will remake this file, but only with minimal info inside.

You will now have to reset your ecoRoute info, since the database it was stored in is gone!

I looked at the mlg_history file -- when it is full (after 50 hours of recording) with 90,000 lines of data, the system has a problem with some corruption of data that makes it unusable, causing:
a) long boot up's
b) loss of voice after use
c) wierd screen redraws

Garmin knows of the issue, but, as of the last firmware update, still has not addressed this issue. I don't have an answer for you.

I use ecoRoute and I have to delete this file from time to time to keep my system running right.

I hope this does it for you. It works great on mine, considering when mine acted up last year, I was on a cross-country trip and not having the voice for turn by turn directions was a real pain in the posterior.

No problems

Haven't had a problem with my 1490T....YET!!!!

It works again!

Thanks. I did use the ecoRoute feature and after deleting the mlg_history.db, the voice came back as well as the bluetooth connection problem with the iphone 4. Now I don't have to reset each time I need the voice prompts nor do I need to re-pair the phone with the gps.

1490 loss of voice

Happened to me the other day but it was not cold - if anything it may have been too hot. I re booted and the voice/sound came back ok. Boy you really dont appreciate the voice until you don;t have it.

Can't you delete mileage history from the nuvi screen?

I thought you could. I also have to clear the trip log periodically to keep the nuvi from misbehaving.

I saw this post and have resolved my voice problems with a new unit. 2455LMT. Have not used it much as yet on a trip, but seems like I need to turn the voice off as it starts up with voice on.
