Restrooms in NYC

I recently visited NYC (Manhattan) and was unaware of their lack of public restrooms and public accessible restrooms. Such thoughts never entered my mind beforehand. Anyone living in the NYC area (or elsewhere) with a desire to help give relief to weary travelers by creating a POI file list of restroom locations available, both public and business owned, would be a real hero in my mind. Having the locations on one's GPS would be great in time of need. I found some listings on the Web, but that did me no good as I wandered cross-legged throughout mid-Manhattan. Now, isn't that just a pretty picture? I always thought such people were degenerates, but now I am one of them. Most locations seem to be in Starbuck's coffee houses, hotels, and chain stores, and some refuse to allow use of the facilities or unless one buys something - fair enough for relief but it would be nice to know all locations and if the location is a business or not and maybe even how safe the location is. Handicapped accessibility locations would help a lot of people also. I am sure other cities may have the same problem.

Brings back a memory from Junior High... and a study hall teacher telling a kid that claimed they needed a restroom pass rather badly to "run with your legs crossed"... no, it wasn't me. smile

You might ask the owner of the website (under contact) if he could provide you with the data so that you can create a poi, or he might be interested in doing it himself. It appears that the http://www.nyrestroom.com/ would be the best one to go with.

I have found that if you are dressed in any manor close to business casual, and you go into a restaurant and ask politely to use the restroom because you have an emergency you will given permission. I have never been turned away in all the far to many years of my time Manhattan.
