I have found this to be an invaluable site. I am on a FL>VA>MD>DC>PA>FL roadtrip right now and am utilizing at least 15-20 custom POIs downloaded from this site. I think your model GPS uses .wav not .mp3 alert sounds, so keep that in mind when downloading alerts (which can be found at the top of the page under sounds). Good luck!

To get the most out of your 1450, you will soon be downloading POI files and such.

But before you do that, please go to
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30393
and
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30394
and follow the instructions in these tutorials.

Backup Reminder

I installed a 4GB SD card and have been placing all the POIs and photos on the card so I completely forgot to backup the main Garmin Drive.

Thanks for the reminder. Backup in progress now.

Responding to an alert

I'm curious. When an alert comes on my zumo 660 screen is there a quick way of telling the GPS to go to it other than hitting Where To/Extras/Custom POIs/ and so on ...?

I have some custom TourGuide alert POIs that are 1 or 2 miles. When I'm driving and 1 pops on the screen sometimes I'd like to change destination to it.

No.I put that suggestion to Garmin a while back and they said they were passing it on to the correct department. It would be a nice feature.

Tap an icon?

I guess it was just crazy of me to think you could just tap an icon and go to it. Thanks for confirming that I am not stupid and I do have to tap multiple times if I change my mind.

It works that way

My 885 gives me the ability to navigate to the alert location. Just tap the alert box and it pops up with a GO screen.

On my unit, I can tap on an icon, then hit Go. It routes me to it with no problem.

I can touch a icon too on the 265 and go to it but not from tapping the alert bar .Nice that the 855 has that feature.

Welcome, you will likely find that custom loaded POI files are far more useful than those that come preloaded on the device.

Tap the right place

EI was trying to tap the alert since the icon wasn't on the screen yet. I went to the icon and tapped it and did get the GO button.

Thanks. I guess I'll find new features for a while with my new toy.

I just found this site too!

I'm excited to try this out and look forward to trying my hand at the creation process, although it seems really confusing at first look.

Do the icons only work with a POI or can it be used as a favorites map symbol?? This question is how I stumbled upon this site, yet I have not found the answer... I really want to find custom map symbols and would love to create my own!!

Welcome to the site. As to the icons, my experience is the favorites only use the symbols built into the system so the custom icons won't display.

I made my own icons for my custom POI's.
It was easy:
Make the bitmap file 22x22 pixels, 256 color.
Name the bitmap file name the same as the POI file.
The file name is case specific, example:
If I had a POI file named Wifi.csv
I would name the bitmap file Wifi.bmp
