I guess the state and county

I guess the state and county needed more revenue to close their budget gap.

ok, will do next time! sad

Maryland has become the

Maryland has become the redlight & speed camera Capital of the United States & that said by another Marylander.

I'd venture a guess that they'd run a deficit even higher than the $1B reported should they pull the cameras. For a progressive State, Maryland has become a greedy, seedy place.

eewww.. Chevy Chase! You get the double-whammy there too! 'City' as well as County cameras.

I used to like Chevy Chase, too. (Still like the comedian. laugh out loud )

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

New speed cams in front of

New speed cams in front of Laurel High School in both directions.

People's Republic of Maryland

At the risk of sounding like a heretic, I may agree slightly with the Rockledge Drive camera. I grew up in Bowie and that part of 197 was always a drag strip (including by me). I'm sure that camera will generate a ton of money.

When I lived in Laurel, I used to go running and would cross Cherry Lane about 1/4 mile below Laurel High School (closer to Rt 1). While waiting for the light to cross Cherry Lane, I would often see 3 or 4 flashes from the red light camera. I'm sure the LHS speed camera will also be a cash cow.

Maryland is, IMO, the top dog nanny-state, though if I lived in another state, I might say the same about that state. The Free State isn't so free.

I agree. My guess is the state and at least one county would be bankrupt by now.

What Then

If everybody obeyed the speed limits what would the city, county, do then, point the cameras at sidewalks and fine fast walkers.

My son lives in Baltimore and every time we visit I make sure I drive within the limits. So far so good.

The new one is that Governor

The new one is that Governor O'Malley says he won't raise taxes, but is openly hoping that the legislature will do the dirty deed for him.

Talk about runaway government spending! It is alrready one of the highest taxed States in the Union. I guess he wants to shoot for Numero Uno.

Fred

Taxes/Fees

Or, like Erlich (who I voted for twice), will institute fees, which are de facto taxes.

Maryland wants to emulate the credit card commercial with the phrase "what's in your wallet?", but will just add "we'll take it."

Lord Baltimore weeps.

More Cameras on MD's Eastern Shore

Trappe, MD has just approved the use of speed cameras. The town council says that cars have been recently recorded doing 70mph down Main Street, which has a speed limit of 25mph. I suppose the couple of policemen they have can't keep up with all the speeders. The cameras should go up in a couple of months.
