.

The nuvi 3790 cannot currently accept routes from MapSource. It uses a different format.

Currently, you have to create the routes on the unit.

(Note also, perhaps Miss POI can separate this out from this thread since it is a different topic.)

Device compatibility with Mapsource

Hello all,

Tried to use Mapsource myself but when I try to I get a message saying my device is incompatible (I own a Nuvi 1490LMT). I looked for a device compatibility listing for Mapsource but wasn't able to find anything. Does such a thing exist?

Thanks

I was able to transfer

I was able to transfer routes from Mapsource to my 1450.

Wow

Wow. I wasn't aware of Garmin's change in 'Route' support & terminology, so I'm finding this interesting to say the least. Had I bought one of these two units based on the 'Route' info from their web spec sheets and found out that they don't save or load 'Routes' to the PC, I'd be VERY upset!

Have either of you tried using Base Camp to attempt a transfer? I'm curious, but after looking at the Owners Manuals for either unit, they only list Maps & GPX Wayopints from Mapsource, and GPI custom POI files from POI Loader as supported file types so I doubt if Base Camp would work (for routes) either but it might be worth a try since it's 'newer' software.

Neither manual mentions how to 'import' your route either. On my 765T and 295W, and all Garmins that load routes I think, once you transfer the route as a gpx file to the unit you then have to import the route using a menu on the unit.

In the case of your 3790, I can't imagine what Garmin was thinking by allowing 100 stored routes, but not allowing them to be transferred to/from your PC!

Yet another brilliant business model, Garmin!

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

I've transferred countless routes to the 1490T from Mapsource. Don't know what your problem could be but it should not a compatibility problem between Mapsource and the 1490, not matter what the error message was.

Also, Garmin website support pages state that a firmware update due out in the 1st quarter of 2011, will allow the 37xx models to accept routes created in Mapsource, as they should have been able to do since the day they were released for sale.

That is a useful tool. Thanks for the link. I like the copy & paste for the stops.
