POILoader Crashes with Sox

I am trying to get the wav sound file from this site to load with the rest area poi file. All files are named exactly the same plus the appropriate extention. Sox.exe and all related files are in the folder with POILoader. The computer is running Win7 64bit- POILoader starts with no problem. Goes all the way to click next to install - Sox starts and then the POILOADER crashes and shows NOT RESPONDING.

If I remove the wav file from the POI folder on my computer POILoader works perfectly and all POI files and bmps are loaded.

I have tried downloading a new copy of Sox - same thing happens. Does Sox not work with 64bit Windows? If I try running Sox.exe on its owns I get a quick text screen that scrolls down and ends before it can be read.

Have you turned off UAC? Running in compatibility mode?

Corrupt Sox?

Or, the wrong version? There's a thread here somewhere on the best version of SOX...

Or try: http://home.comcast.net/~ghayman3/garmin.gps/index.html

Gary has the info also.

I tried the transfer using a Win XP computer and it worked. So there is some problem with Win7 64 and the Sox file. I just downloaded the sox version you suggested in your link. I will try that in the future - but at the moment the Win XP transfer worked.

Thanks.

If it worked, no need to download it again, right? Just keep a copy of the file in your backup if needed again.

Good to hear you got it going!

Wait

I get the same (Not Responding) displayed on the POILoader title bar, but guess what... leave it alone and just wait. Mine finishes.

I've noticed the same thing using POILoader on my Win7 x64 laptop, with sox.exe loading wav files. Ignore the Not Responding and just wait a couple minutes. Mine finishes and I get the normal POILoader completion window telling me how many POIs were loaded.

I have no idea why it happens, but if I wait, it works. confused

Ditto. Just to confirm you're not seeing an issue unique to your computer, my Win7 PC also can show a Not Responding, but give it time and the message will go away with a succesful completion of the task.

With all the experimenting

With all the experimenting that I have been doing to get this to work other than on WinXp by putting different versions of Sox into the POIloader folder, now POILoader crashes completely - it no longer says not responding - it just closes.

To get around all of this I have used Windows 7 Virtual machine to enter win xp and use that to load the custom poi files with accompanying sound files and that works (just as it did on my other computer with WinXP.

Not sure why it just closes now instead of showing not responding and then finishing -as others have noted and I was getting in the beginning. Maybe I should just uninstall POIloader and start again... or just use the virtual machine which is a pain.

Reinstall

I would uninstall POILoader, manually check for any leftover folders/files and delete them, install and run CCleaner both the file cleaner and the registry cleaner (let it backup any changes when it prompts) reboot the PC and then try re-installing POILoader (Run as Administrator).

I use POI Loader with Win 7 64 bit and the Sox file and it works fine here. I think you have the wrong sox version.
