Did my Garmin StreetPilot C320 bite the dust?

I was on a road trip to LA and San Diego. I used the C320 all the way through. I had fully charged my C320 the night before last, and then last night tried to use it.

I turned it on, and the C320 showed "Low Battery" before shutting off. I thought that was odd since I had fully charged it. I turned it on again, it again showed the low battery message and shut off immediately.

I then plugged in the C320 into the car charger, and it would not turn on. I tried two different car chargers / miniUSB cables, and it would not turn on.

I had to pull out my back up TomTom GPS and use that to get home. The same car charger / miniUSB cables worked fine on the TomTom so it was not an issue with the charger or cables.

I can't get my C320 to turn on no matter what. Is it dead?

Not sure, but...

I'm not sure, but I'd never say a Garmin is dead until it fails after having been on a live charger for 12-24 hours. So I suggest a long overnight charge, then see what happens. Make sure the charger is live (not a cigarette lighter socket that turns off with the ignition or a USB port that turns off when a computer goes to sleep or hibernate mode).

Good luck. (On the other hand, this is Black Friday--maybe you were meant to buy a new GPS today.)

The other option is to try a new battery which may be worth a "$23 with free S&H" experiment:

Garmins will not power up unless there is enough power in the battery to operate. That doesn't mean fully charged, but enough power for it to operate for a short period. By short I would assume at least 1/2 hour.

You are probably looking at a battery replacement to restore the full functionality of the unit. Replacement batteries and tools can be found for less than $20 and there are instructional videos on YouTube.

Try this first

Try a "re-set" and see if that will get the unit to work nomally. It is worth at least a try before sending it off or replacing it, and will cost nothing.

Thanks everyone for the

Thanks everyone for the advice. I charged my StreetPilot on a home charger and it came back to life. It was strange that the car chargers didn't revive it.

I'll have to keep an eye on this GPS. I'm glad it's back alive again. It has worked very well for the last 5 years.

I had experienced the same thing with my c530 several years back. When the battery is discharged, the only way to get it back is with a full charge from either my USB on my PC or directly from a home charger. The power supply from the car is not sufficient. Also, it takes several hours before the unit is sufficiently charged to "come alive". Now, I periodically plug my unit in at home to assure I have sufficient charge.
