Does 2011.3 "Think" Differently than Previous Versions

My GPSMAP60CSx calculates different routes with 2011.3 than with previous versions. All GPS settings remained the same, no new roads constructed, etc.

Anyone else notice this?

I notice that too on my units...same settings, same roads, etc.

Different Routes

Are the "different routes" a better way or just different? I've seen this happen a few times with some upgrades.

Better or Different?

Not sure if better or just different yet.

Had a little oops yesterday when the GPS took me off the highway onto secondary roads to make a little hypotenuse between an upcoming exit to another highway. It was a mistake.

Right now, it's just a little unnerving because it does things a bit different. I have to see if I can trust it.

Make sure you don't have any

Make sure you don't have any avoidances turned on since this has changed on mine on certain occasions.

I just bought a 3760LMT and the routes are different than my 1490. In my situation it could be the new trafficTrends™ and myTrends™ feature but some of the routes do not make sense. I've upgraded both units to 2011.30 and the routes did not change but I have seen routes change with map updates in the past with other Garmin's that I have owned.

Same here.

I have loaded back to 2011.2 for just that reason. I loaded 2011.3 on a card. And then disabled it on the maps page.

New maps can change routing

Sure. Even if they did not add new roads in the area you're looking at, they might have updated things like the speed limits or 'road type' definitions on the roads. A change like that could cause your GPS to conclude a different route is faster.

2011.30

I haven't noticed any changes at least nothing dramatic.

nuvi765T

2011.30

I did not noticed any thing different.

I haven't noticed anything

I haven't noticed anything different on my three units. A 755t, 1450 and a 3790.

Where the map cuts are....?

I think it may have to do with where the map "cuts" are. From what I have observed, I don't think the map is seamless. In previous versions when traveling on I-90 heading northwest out of Chicago O'hare towards Rockford, IL the Nuvi used to tell me to get off on an exit and then parallel I-90, then get back onto I-90 (no change in avoidances, and no new toll booths were added). It didn't have me do that after this last update. It did however, while traveling from Wichita to Kansas City, want me to get off I-35 northeast of Emporia at some exit in the middle of nowhere and then get right back on the highway at the same exit. This had not happened in previous map versions when driving that route. I have also noticed, both in this version and previous version I will be driving along with no turns ahead for many miles and the map will start to zoom in, then it will all of a sudden zoom way out to a bigger picture. The only thing I can think of is some type of "seam" on the map.

I did notice something handy on Saturday when returning my rental car at the Tampa airport. I put in Hertz return for my destination and the map had JunctionViews for every turn I had to make once I got on the airport. I think I counted 4 from the entrance to the airport to the entrance to the parking garage. Nice info, but with all of the airport signage in place I think I would rather use the storage space to have more JunctionViews while on the highway.

NO

I dont see anything different about the way it calculates routes. Did update some new roads near to me though. Many, many more 3D buildings showing on my 765t. I have no complaints!

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.

If you download the update

If you download the update for 1 unit do you still have to download for the 2nd unit, or can you just run the 1st download again?

Yes Absolutely

I have the exact same settings and avoidances as in the past and with the latest map update the unit does route me differently.

I come home from work the same way every day and am 99.9% certain that the speed limit hasn't changed nor are there any additions of new roads.

I've seen two different routings my unit will give me and it varies back and forth depending on the map I'm using.

1 download will work, but...

Peter, one download can work for multiple units (each with its own paid lifetime update, of course) but there's an extra hoop to jump through. In one of the early update windows as you start the download/update process, look to the lower left corner for an "Install Options" button. You need to click the Install Options and choose the option that says something like "keep the download for additional updates." I definitely have the quote wrong but once you click the Install Options button, you'll readily know what to do next for a 1-time download and 2-time GPS install. Good luck.

I also noticed on mine. Some certain routes calculate different than before with the same GPS (Nuvi 1350t) settings.

Yes, some differences

I've noticed some differences in the way it routes on established roads that I travel all the time. Nothing major, at least not yet. For example, a place where there is a bend in the road it now adds a turn at that point even though it is the same road. Things like that. While it is the same road interestingly it is at a point where years ago the road may have ended and then was added to. I don't know that for a fact, but it is at a point where one section of my community ends and another begins. The question might be why from one release to another does it treat that spot (and there are others) differently. And I've had other GPSs do similar things. The next map update might not do it.

2011.3

I just downloaded this upgrade yesterday. I'll try it out this weekend to see if it does things differently.

Don't remember which upgrade but yes...

Was in Nashville for an event and before I returned there was an map update which I downloaded. Going to the same place it routed me diferently when I got to within about 1/2 mile of the place. New roads were not the issue.

No problem with mine

I updated my Nuvi and a Quest2 with the new 2011.3 and didn't have a problem with either.

You may find

You may find this interesting, as well as part of your answer (eventually! shock ).

I ran across it researching the real scoop on Routes, following up on the "Forcing A Route Calculation" thread..
https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=10709

It's a long topic, and you might have to read all of the posts twice!
(Short answer.. probably 'yes'.)

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.
