Is there such a category?

How about Funeral Homes? Are they in the default points of interest. "Lodging"? "Recreation"? "Shopping" (for caskets)? "Transit"? "Community"? Community is where I thought they might be, but didn't find them.

Funeral

Try selecting Points of Interest, Spell Name and enter Funeral. It works for me wherever it finds funeral.

Thanks!

Thank you! That worked to find the funeral home I was looking for. When I tried to "edit" it to see what category it is in, there was no category checked, so that is why I can't find it under category.

?

I think the category for that one is "Morbid".

You can also find coroner, morgue, cemetary, and crematory.

Morbid laughter here at POI Factory

One of the things that made me laugh when I was first looking around this site is that someone made a POI list of Idaho Funeral Homes. I'm sure that one is downloaded often...

Many Locations

I often can't find locations in the "categories" I think they should be. This is often the case when they could be in more than one. Using the Spell function saves time and headaches, well until it isn't listed at all...

In Mapsource, they are in category "Other". Since this category doesn't exist on your GPS, jjen's suggestion is an excellent way to find them.

There needs to be some limit on Categories.

Should there need to be one for "Crematories"? Probably not.

The task, then, becomes to decide on a limited number of categories that together will contain at least 80% of all of the POIs.

This means that the other 20% will be harder, but not impossible, to find (as jjen has detailed).

Smartphones w/GPS

It's worth pointing out that this whole line of inquiry is moot for smartphone GPS users because Internet access provides virtually unlimited information. As smartphones evolve, develop, get refined and more affordable, a fixed and finite data-containing "dumb" GPS will become less attractive when compared to the dynamic, continuously updated Internet resourcing of smartphones.

How many...

How many funerals does one have to go to in order to have a favorite dedicated to this? Unless they are frequent funeral crashers, one would think that there would be time to look up the address or those with nuLink can use the Google Local feature to search for it our acquire the address via the phone number.

Hey: This would also be a good one for contract professional hearse drivers.

My wifes smart phone is not

My wifes smart phone is not so smart when the Att G3 network is not available, then it seems to act just like my regular phone.

Sometimes I add a poi find to my favorites, even though I don't go there often. (The Philippine Consulate in Chicago, for example, which is actually the address of a building downtown.)

But my original question was if there was a poi "category" for funeral homes on my gps, and apparently there is not, so I will need to remember how to spell funeral.

don'r worry

It is not neccesary that you have that in the GPS, when the time comes the funeral director knows how to get you there... wink
