Could someone more knowledgeable about creating POI files please convert the XLS file on the Loves site to a POI file..I've been trying to do it, but don't seem to be doing something right...

Thanks

you can get a free poi loader if your unit is a garmin on garmins website. The is a creator or you can convert files off this site to load to your gps. I'm adding a link if you are interested. http://geepeeex.com/

Hmm..if Garmin

Have you tried saving it as a CSV file and then using POI loader?

@ N9mxq

There is a Love's Travel Stops .csv file on this site at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/769.

If you download this POI file, you can use POILoader to put it on your GPS.

By the way, you did not say on your profile what GPS model you have. You will find that members here can be more specific in answering your questions if they know that.

It sounds like you were trying to take a file that you created from the data on http://www.loves.com/Default.aspx?tabid=60
and create your own POI file. If this is true, then the .xls file you created could be turned into a .csv file with a "Save as" and then using the down arrow on the "save as type" box to scroll down to "CSV (comma delimited) (*.csv)" and select that file type.

Another option if you are in the learning phase is to download Extra POI Editor (EPE). Get it from
http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/Extra_POI_Editor#toc5

Run EPE and just "open" your .xls file directly. You will see a map of the first entry appear and can scroll thru the file. Ypu can save the file from EPE into a .csv file. Many of the members here use and love the flexibility of EPE. It is an essential tool to learn about.

Thanks!

Huh, I couldn't find that whilst searching... Thanks...

I'll see if this does what I want..

These (Loves, Pilot/FlyingJ/TA) POI files are a great boon out on the road in the truck.. I use them daily..if not several times a day.. Just wish they all had Highway/Exit #'s included...

@n9mxq

I'm not sure what you are looking for now. If you clicked on the link, it took you to the download page for the Love's Truck Stop POI. According to the write-up, the file contains exit information, truck scales, TransFlo, Trip Pak, and parking. RV Dump locations are noted.

The file is a GPX and not a CSV. Both work in your GPS exactly the same except the GPX contains more information formatted to put information on your screen in specific locations. It's a complete file.

The information in the Love's spreadsheet isn't usable without a lot of manipulation. There are at least 11 locations that do not have lat/lon entries so straight from Love's web site the file is unusable.
