Any one had trouble going from I70 to I44 with a Garmin through St. Louis?

I have had problems with the Garmin instructions on my last three trips heading west on I 70 toward Tulsa while entering St. Louis, MO. I found myself twice on city streets for several miles to acquire I 44. This last trip I ignored the Garmin and followed signs to Tulsa and had a quick trip through St. Louis. Am I hearing wrong or is there an issue. Problem on old maps for my 260 unit and the latest map on my 1490T which has lane assist.
Which map version?
I just simulated this on my 855 with map version 2011.2, and the route is staying on interstates thru St. Louis (I70W > I55S > I44W). It seems like a pretty direct route to me.
What map version do you have? I think some of the earlier map versions had some some interstates and interchanges disabled for a time in downtown St. Louis because of road construction.

You're scaring me
I never had a problem with my 650, but I haven't used my 1490T through there yet.

The routing choices in your unit, fastest vs. shortest can play a factor along with the date of the maps. Then again it just may be another 'gotcha' with your unit.
We mapped out a route from I-30 to I-35E going through Dallas and verified the route with MapSource. Loaded the route and, of course, the Nuvi thinks it has to recalculate a MapSource route. It wanted me to go downtown instead of taking I-635. I saw the signs and made the exit - barely. Garmin has been pretty sad in the recalculating ROUTES from the planned itinerary to what the unit thinks is better.
