Nüvi 750 back-up.

Never paid attention to backing up my Nüvi until I ran into a problem, solved it, but the question remains: How do we back-up this device (I mean totally)? Is it possible except for preferences etc., and if yes, how do we do it? And last but not least: Recovery back on the device if something goes totally wrong (Like ghost/image)!
Looking back on the posts, people are talking about back-up without defining what it means! Asking Garmin it is impossible to make a total back-up, except for gpx files etc.

I've backed up my 760 a few

I've backed up my 760 a few times, I just synchronize the Nuvi to the computer hard drive.

Personal preference but for something like this, in fact for all file operations, I use Total Commander (http://www.ghisler.com). If you use this it has a "synchronize directories" command which will copy everything to your hard drive and then do a bit for bit compare between the original and the copy to ensure there are no copy errors. As far as I'm concerned it's the best file manager on the planet.

Open the Nuvi drive in one window, open your backup directory in the other window, tell Total Commander to synchronize the Nuvi to the computer, go and have a cup of coffee and when you get back you have a bit-verified backup.

Backup all files

It is explained at the following link. Basicly, all you need to do is copy all the files and folders from the nuvi to a safe spot on your computer (or other location).

Nuvi 2460LMT.

.

You can back up the device but some of the information (including the preferences and settings) are in memory that is not user accessible so those things will not be backed up.

As Motorcycle Mama said, your preferences and settings are gone, but you CAN backup all the files in the unit.
