Busy learning the ins and outs of the WalMart special, the nuvi 1100.
The closest family member of the 1100 is the 1200 (just doesn't have the text-to-speech). Also, cannot import routes from the MapSource program.
Other than that, it's ok so far.
1100?
Wow, that one's new to me. WTH is Garmin doing with the model numbers?

This one has been out for a while. The 1100 is a 3.5" cut-rate GPS specifically offered as a loss leader for Wal*Mart. In fact, it's the only 3.5" GPS Wal*Mart carries from Garmin. Everything else carried in the store is a widescreen model, either a 4.3" or 5".

205 or 1100
Would the Nuvi 205 be a better unit than the Nuvi 1100?
My 205 was stolen and I'm in the market to get a new unit.
Thanks for advice!
Yes. The 1100 doesn't come
Yes.
The 1100 doesn't come in widescreen, doesn't have speed limit indicators on screen and doesn't have TTS voices, so you'll hear "Turn right in 500 feet" instead of "Turn right onto Main Street in 500 feet". The 2x5 series has all that.

However, if you're in the market and still want a 2x5 series, get a 255W. It has all of North America.

nuvi 205
Current price at Amazon is $81.75 for the 205. For just a few dollars more you can get a 255 ($84.99), 255W ($89.99). That would give you the Text To Speech (speaks street names) feature that the 205 and 1100 don't have.
