mac users (csv files grayed out with Garmin POI Loader)

i had another post about the difficulties i experienced with my new mac and poi loader for mac i downloaded from garmin . couldnt get it to work .i tried methods suggested by other poi members and thought i was successful but wasnt. after about 2 hours of googling i found a program called poi organizer , and it seems to work .when it looked at my ( or found ) the cvs files they were not grayed out as before with garmin poi loader. all of the files loaded to the sd card where i wanted them to go to begin with . the one thing i did experience after loading the sd card was that the 255w shut down .it did it twice and again this morning when i fired it up,restarted immediately when i removed sd card. more googling said possibly because it being a class 2 card i need something faster. anyone with input would be appreciated.

{ADMIN NOTE: When you go to transfer the files to your GPS with POI Loader, the files will be grayed out. This is normal (because you are selecting the folder, not individual poi files). After you select the folder that contains the POI files, you should be able to continue to the next screen and transfer the locations to your GPS.}

I've never had a problem with POI Loader. You don't actually select the CSV files, just the folder they hold. A limitation, perhaps, but not a bug.

I would be surprised if it's a speed issue (Class # rates minimum speed); that should only really come into play with video, not such simple files as GPS data.

BTW, it would have been helpful to others and the discussions if you'd posted a link to the poi organizer app you'd found.

Looking at the app,
http://web.me.com/poi_organizer/POI_Organizer/POI_Organizer....
it uses POI Loader to do the actual transfer: "Integration with Garmin POI Loader for uploading to a GPS unit." So I don't see why it would work better than POI Loader for the actual transfer

sd card

i just put my 4 gb class 6 card back into the 255w . all pois loaded without a problem and the garmin didnt shut down . it might be the card is defective but i dont have a problem formatting or loading card with info and seeing that info on a computer. not sure what the issue is ? the shut down didnt occur until i had info on the sd card ( that was the only other thing that stood out ).your right about the folder/poi organizer , another member had told me the same thing. thats how i finally got the pois on the sd card. thanks for the help.hopefully ill get better at this.

+1

The .cvs files will be grayed out. You have to put the POI .cvs files into a folder on your computer. When you run POI Loader you will be given the option to browse your computer to find the "folder" where the POI .cvs files are located to load into your GPSr. The grayed out .cvs files is normal.

OK.....so where the heck am I?

POI Loader

Thanks for the great help. Now I have a dedicated folder for POIs and it works great!

Grayed out

It is normal not to be able to see the POI files because Garmin POI Loader loads ALL the POI files in the folder - not some of them. See my FAQ on using POI Loader. It is written for the PC, but there is no difference in running it on a Mac -

I wouldn't use any other software to load POIs into my Garmin or SD card. I recommend only Kingston or SanDisk SD cards - no other brands.
