885T Selective POI Alert

Is it possible to selectively choose which POI have proximity alerts activated. I can only find an option to have proximity alerts for all custom POI turned on or off. RLCs and DDD locations might be nice but I don't need to know every time I'm about to pass a BoA.

Unless you set the alerts by

Unless you set the alerts by using poiloader in manual mode and setting a distance or speed you will not get alert.Also by building alerts in with gpx files.

File names with key words like redlight and speed will give you automatic alert.Check out poiloader help .Lots of info there on alerts.

In order better answer your question, it would be helpful to know whether you are talking about alerts for all the entries in POI file A but not for all of the entries in POI file B. Or, are you talking about wanting alerts of some of the entries in a POI file but no alerts for others in that same file.

Both, I think

I think both. I have not created any POI on my own, I have only downloaded files from this sight. I'm begining to think a better question for me to ask might be if there is an online tutorial regarding mangement and creation of POI's in general? The more I try to use this thing the more questions pop up. How do I manage POI, what can I edit on downloaded files, what am I actually downloading, how do I make my own POI, can they be moved into a "favorites" folder, why do proximity alerts show up as a speed alert, what is a speed alert, etc, etc..? I know that my ignorance is probably laughable.

@pokecheck

You have many good questions. That is the way we all learn something - even those who might be reluctant to ask a question (they learn by just reading the posts). I seem to learn something new every day.

I am going to suggest that you read some of the FAQs. Go to the alphabetic list and start with the "Beginner's Exercises". http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6654

I think that many of your questions will be answered (although a lot more will probably be generated) by just doing the five "exercises".

As you learn, I hope you will make some notes as to what might have made the FAQs easier to read or to use.

Not laughable!

Poke,

The current market conditions have lead to excess complexity in the GPS custom POI field. In fact there are several sites exploiting the irrationality. GPSbable is one I use, along with GPSvisualizer. Conversions and programming should be a full time job for a certian kind of person. I do not think that I am that kind of person, and am glad to let others do the work and earn the small rewards for doing that ugly work. At about $15/hr. I would be interested, mercenary that I am.
In fact it is farily easy if you know a bunch of computer languages, PHP, ED, SED, HTML, etc.
