New Orleans has suspended their redlight speed camera program....

Here is the article that talks about New Orleans suspending their red light and speed camera program:

I have gone ahead and removed these locations from the file that will be uploaded tomorrow.

A little quick?

Why remove them? it's only an injunction; what if a higher court overrules it sometime soon and things flip right back? Someone could get caught unawares.

Permanent!

Let's hope the injunction becomes permanent. It is apparent the city rushed these cameras into service in violation of the law. Let us hold the public officials of New Orleans to the same standard they hold the driving public to - the letter of the law.

Most likely reversed

Although I would like to see all redlight and speed cameras eliminated I believe that the injunction is going to be temporary and expect the court opinion to be overturned. Too much of a revenue generator at risk

So, are they refunding fines?

Shouldn't they have to refund the fines they've collected?

It doesn't make sense that tickets given the day before this ruling was issued are still valid, but tickets after the ruling are not. If the cameras violate the city charter, then the fines collected under them should be returned.

I like the statement from the Mayor's Office quoted in the article. After a quick sop to public safety, the spokesperson launched into a tearful plea about all the lost revenue and cuts in city services that might have to occur because of it. Thanks for confirming what we already knew about the real reason for the cameras.

Amen, brother.

Lost revenue

How come every time a court says that the State/County/City can't screw over us, they threaten to cut jobs/services till they get their way?
Just like a little kid saying they will hold their breath if you won't buy them candy.
They have to get air some time.
How did they get by before they screwed us?

The locations are still in

The locations are still in the system and I will reactivate them if the appeal is successful.

Back in Operation

Just to follow up on this old post, these cameras are back in operation. They'll re-appear in the file when the update is published next week.
