Garmin Nuvi Battery Recall - Tracking Log

There is another thread about the Garmin Nuvi battery recall at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30316
- but it was getting hard to see how long it is taking Garmin to fix the units and get them back to their owners.

Since my 765T is on the recall list but I'm hesitant to send it away because I might want to replace mine myself, I thought I'd volunteer to post a log here for the users with recalls.

If yours is recalled and want to show the status, then post a message here or send me an email with your user name, model type, date sent & later on send or post the date returned and post any comments about the process.
Thanx.

Just noticed

Paper work that came with the unit indicated a change in the serial number. The Garmin site already has it logged so it should not affect my Numaps updates.

I sent my 750 on August 30

I sent my 750 to El Paso, TX on August 30 from upstate NY. Have not received it back yet.

Garmin repair website not keeping up with influx of returns

I too returned my Nuvi 770 to El Paso and several days after UPS indicated it had arrived the Garmin website stated it was still awaiting receipt of shipment.

I contacted Garmin customer service via their website on 09/10/2010 requesting information as to whether or not Garmin repair was in receipt of my unit. I received the following reply on 09/12/2010:

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.
I will be happy to help you with this. The unit has been received and processed. They will replace the battery in your unit and send it back out. In a few instances the system is not updating and saying the unit has been received. I am sorry about this. You should being receiving your unit in the next 7 to 10 business days. If there is anything else I can help you with feel free to email me back.

As of 30 seconds ago, the Garmin website STILL says it's awaiting the return of my shipment. So obviously I'm one of the lucky ' few instances' where their system is not updating.

Gotta love Garmin. I guess it will be hit and miss until they clear out all the units needing battery replacements and can get someone to key in the RMA and serial numbers of repaired/replaced units going out the door.

Garmin Nuvi Battery Recall - Tracking Log

callbox47.....760.....8/27/2010....9/13/2010

Case and screen are original parts sent in, as well as internals seem to be the same. Favorites and tracks remain. Customized maps loaded into memory remain. Serial number changed.

Same here, UPS shows mine

Same here, UPS shows mine being delivered to El Paso on Sept. 7, 2010, but when I put in the RMA number on the Garmin site, they say they haven't received it.

Seems like a poor system considering they're dealing with their customers' expensive GPS units.

Not to worry

I believe that Garmin would actually have to receive the units in order for them to update the tracking log with accuracy. Since they are not being sent to Garmin, it's hard for them to do so.

I did find it interesting however that my delivered package had the sender listed as Garmin in Olathe, KS even though the package departed from Escoto in El Paso.

Bottom line....who really cares as long as you receive it back in working order, which I'm sure you will.

Battery Recall Rant

Well, here it is 4 days later since I last heard from Garmin stating that my Nuvi 770 was sitting in El Paso.

And still, today.... the Garmin recall website says it's awaiting receipt of my unit.

But Garmin has now added this to their website:

Attention nüvi Battery PCB Recall Customers:

You may notice a difference between your Garmin recall status and the shipment status. This is normal, as the two systems operate separately and may not always be synchronized. Your status will be updated within these timeframes:

* United States 6-8 business days
* Canada 8-12 business days
* Europe 2-6 business days

Okay Garmin, you have two separate computer systems (not uncommon in large business's) but come on. My Nuvi unit was delivered to El Paso 10 DAYS ago!

I've been a Garmin user longer than I care to remember but with all the hardware/software/firmware issues that have cropped up over the years and now not even so much as to update receipt of my Nuvi, I'm beginning to loose faith.

Frustrated Garmin User

Really

I wish that this was all I had to whine about in life!!! You do realize that when all these units started showing up at the same time that it is going to take some time to sort things out, fix it, and return it. Did you send it with a tracking number??? Does it show that it arrived??? They said that they have it let them fix it and get it back to you and chill. If they don't I am sure that they will take care of you.

Update my unit was delivered

Update my unit was delivered today...

Interesting, I can say for sure I did not receive the same unit back. Or at least the LCD, front and rear covers were not the same…

GARMIN RECALL

Amazon sent me an email alerting me to the recall. I checked and my serial number wasn't recalled.

RE data on the Garmin, I back up (using MapSource) my data on my computer.

I'd imagine that was to your benefit? Hope so anyway.

Jeff...... Nuvi 2460, Nuvi 2595

I finally got a tracking

I finally got a tracking number for the return of my 750, but the status hasn't changed from "Billing Information Received" for five days. It should be on it's way, not just sitting somewhere. I'm pretty disappointed in the time frame. I sent it in on August 30th.

Update

jale .................. 770 ....... 09/07/2010 ....... 09/22/2010

Came back with a new serial number. It is the same unit with all my files and the same time/clock settings but it is unlocked. I remember sending it locked but it makes sense that they unlocked it to test it after the battery change.

Tracking update

The RMA site now shows my device has shipped and the UPS tracking number projects a delivery date of 9/28/2010.

The unit was picked up by UPS on 9/1/2010, delivered to Garmin on 9/9/2010.

28 day end-to-end turnaround from Maryland and back if the projection holds.

Garmin recall

I have a 765t that ups says was received on Sept. 3
So far the RMS status on my Garmin still says it hasn't been received and today is Sept. 23. Checked again, just now, and they say there is a glitch in the system. I should get it back in a week, we'll see.

When I got replacement unit from warranty repair they updated info on my account and transferred lifetime maps update to new unit. But I had to register new unit on my account first. You can always call them to update subscription if they will not do it automatically.

Awaiting Shipping

Yessir, that's the latest report from Garmin as to the status of my Nuvi 770.

Let's see.....delivered to El Paso on 09/07/2010.

Awaiting shipping (to me, hopefully) on 09/24/2010.

Now it's a wait and see moment as to when I have it back in my hands.

Cheers!

Garmin Nuvi 260W Recall

Sent UPS to a warehouse in Brandon Manitoba from Toronto August 27 where it is forwarded to Texas for repair, strange arrangement. Current location unknown as of Sep. 24. Poses the question why could it not have been repaired in Toronto for Canadian customers and there would be no concerns about crossing international borders. despite many phone calls to Garmin in Kansas I am no wiser with regards to me ever seeing this unit again. I regret very much returning this unit on the recall as it worked very well and there was no indication of a problem with a heat build up. I have made a request to Garmin for a replacement as I have no intention of waiting another month only to be told "We are trying to locate your device". Unbelievable screw up.

Did I see from another post that you are in 'the sandbox'?? If so, and it's the sandbox I think it is..
that turn-around time isn't too bad, eh?
(or were you referring to the 'sandbox' portion of Texas? grin )

Patience is a virtue.

Yes they have taken very good care of me. Now in my fifth week of great anticipation. My Garmin 260 W Was actually working OK.however, allowing myself to get caught up in the great recall fever I mailed it immediately for the battery replacement program and I am still waiting it's return. today I contacted them with the simple request,"Please ignore my request to take part in your great recall program and return the unit as received to me UPS Air." You made mention about all these units showing up at the same time. The key word here is "ORGANIZATION" as per Toyota. It's beginning to get somewhat chilly in the frozen North these nights and I just hope that my unit is returned "Unrepaired"before the climate change does it's worst and that I don't get lost on my journey to the North Pole.

OMG, I just found this

OMG, I just found this information.

Yep! THAT sandbox...only with very ugly mountains

The Nuvi 770 is actually my daughter's; only it's registered in my name.

But HARK!! According to Garmin the 770 was shipped out via UPS on the 25th! Hoooray! No estimated delivery date but shucks, I'll take what I can, eh?

And you are most welcome. It's my honour and privilege to serve our great country.

Cheers!

FInally got my nuvi 750 back

FInally got my nuvi 750 back today, 9/28/10. It has a new serial number which is already on the Garmin website. All my favorites are intact and it picked up satellites when I took it outside. So I guess all is good.

Received Back

My unit was indeed returned back on 9/28/2010 as indicated by UPS; working well.

Garmin 260W Recall

If your unit is working do not even consider returning as part of the garmin recall. If you email for status on your return all you get is a continuous "there a batch being returned in a couple of days". This is an ongoing response from them i suspect that they are so buried with returns that they are unable to cope. I requested that they return my unit as received,it was working OK, "Can't do that". Why did they not use their dealer network to assist in this recall? My unit was sent Aug.27 2010 and I don't think they have a clue as to where it is

Nuvi 770 made it home (finally)

The Big Brown truck delivered my daughter's Nuvi 770 Monday. It appears to be working well with the exception of not being recognised on her computer's USB port. Hopefully that will be an easy fix.

All of her POI's were still intact!

It has a new serial number but otherwise working fine.

Cheers!

wishfull thinking: that they would update software free, for the inconvienence.

It's back

Nuvi 760 sent back from Tx on Oct 2, arrived today Oct 6. Assigned a new serial number and was already updated on my.garmin.com when I checked. Comes with a notification of new serial number tag and instructions to charge first before using, etc. Last paragraph is a nicely worded apology for the trouble. As I said, those who have to send it back should look at it from the bright side - you get a new non-user replaceable battery (ie one that you would not have been able to easily replace yourself) that should extend the life of your unit a few years. Cheers!

New Board?

Aero_Jonno- Don't forget that they probably gave you a new unit not for the battery, but because they replaced a 'defective' board.

Seeing that wording about boards in the recall notice made me decide to eventually send mine in even though I would have otherwise tried replacing the battery myself. Still waiting for things to settle down a bit before sending mine in, though.

Glad you got yours back reasonably fast.

260 back from recall

Sent on Oct 1, UPS delivered it back at my door on Oct 13. The last time my unit acquired satellite was at the north side of Chihuahua, Mexico, about 100 miles south of El Paso. The location looks like a large industrial facility from satellite map.

New shell, new serial number, all my favorites are intact.

Sigh. All I see when I track

Sigh.

All I see when I track my package is...

Billing Information Received

Sent August 31 and counting.

Shipped September 29 and counting.

Deeper-sigh.

I called UPS - a clerk thought my nüvi hadn't been picked up yet and suggested I call Garmin.

So I did.

A Garmin representative said the delay was more than likely related to the package crossing back into Canada from the US. The nüvi is in my city, waiting to be scanned by UPS, she stated. This process has something to do with customers not being charged for shipping, duties, and/or brokerage fees.

O-kay.

I called UPS again to confirm what I'd been told. My nüvi did not cross the border... it was picked up in Canada and should've arrived October 1.

Back to Garmin.

Yes, they said, the nüvi did go south... to Texas. It hasn't been lost - it hasn't even been picked up yet. Be patient. it could be a few more weeks.

Even deeper-sigh.

Wow. I wonder what NHTSA would say to that.
If the car company I used to work for had a customer c.f. like that on a recall, they (NHTSA) would have thrown ALL of their toys out of the stroller!

But, since it's a vehicle accessory and not a vehicle, maybe they could care less.

I sure wish you a quick resolution anyway.
(Canada to Texas to Mexico, and back again.. sounds like mucho room for problemos, eh? .. Pardner?)
