In another post a couple of days ago I was asking about putting 2 separate maps on my unit. I got that answer. So after i loaded the second map on my unit i've noticed it's taking an awful long time to load the maps and to get to the Warning screen on start up. I am not loading the topo map just the 2011.20 2d and 3d. What happened? Space left on nuvi is 1.66 GB which is almost half. Never payed attention to see if any other files grew when i installed the topo map.

card speed?

Is your card a Class 2,4,6 etc.? Higher numbers mean higher data transfer speeds.

Just for kicks, untick the 3D and see what happens...

Unticked the 3d, no diff. In Mapinfo i have 3 things.
2011.20 2d
2011.20 3d
Topo Canada v2

Only the 2d and 3d gets loaded

.

Just as an experiment, leave your nuvi on, with no input til it runs out of battery. I'm wondering if the internal defrag will move data around to where it needs to be, and create a faster boot for you.

When i noticed it slowing down was after i not only loaded the topo map on the unit but also updated the map from 2010.40 - 2011.20. I did that through the sd card mind you, not through the updater. I defragged
it using xp's defrag. Also now i notice that when I connect it to the pc, the update bar always shows for a bit but no green line goes through.

Yes i did, and made a boo-boo, reset data, answered yes, and remembered as soon as i did that i forgot to copy my favorites. Had a backup lost maybe 2 or 3 favorites. Btw i did notice that xp defrag left a whole bunch of untouched fragments behind when it defragged, so i'm gonna try your way. Take all of 10 minutes for this battery to die..lol

Then plug it in, and leave it on all night. It may take a while to defrag.

PS - glad you didn't lose all your faves!

Weird?

Not sure, but after i loaded those 2 maps on I got some new stuff during boot. When i turn it on it goes to the loading Maps quickly then it sits there for a while, just before it goes to the main user screen this stuff shows on the bottom

The bottom two lines are just Canadian Copyright Info for the Canadian maps that NAVTEQ used.

Try unticking every map

Try unticking every map EXCEPT your Canadian Topo and see if it will run by itself.

I have both on my Garmin but don't ever try to run both City Navigator and Topo at the same time. Not sure why you would want to run both at the same time.

Garmin 205, 260W, 1450LMT, 2460LMT, HEREwego for iPhone ... all still mapping strong.

The topo map is never active unless i'm hiking. I have both city navigator 2d and 3d ticked most of the time. I've tried all that before. From the time I turn it on, till the warning screen comes on is 25 seconds no matter which map is enabled, all of them for that matter, same thing.
