Garmin 855 Reboots occasonally on startup

I use to have that same problem with my 880, until I d/l the latest firmware update and that corrected the problem for me..

Same for mine (855), every few days it will preform a boot upon startup. The interesting thing is that when it boots randomly like this it usually doesn't require the code (Garmin Lock) to unlock the screen. After it has booted, I can change the code to something different without ever having to enter the old code! If I force a reboot, it seems to always require the code to unlock. I have the latest firmware and maps installed.

I think it is 2011.20 maps because my other half has 2011.10 and his 855 and it is ok.

My 855 will always revert back to Jill for almost anything except wakeing up from a "suspended state". All rebots and connecting the USB to a computer to upload or download always changes it back to Jill. all of my other settings seem to remain intact. I haven't noticed the frequency of occurance change much between firmware and map updates. I use the mp3 player frequently and have it totally lock up when I tell it to play, requiring the "10 second in the OFF position" reboot to recover. It will continue to lockup until I browse to a different album to play, then it works fine. It seems to happen when I'm starting to play when it is positioned exactly at the end of a song.

I would do a hard reset, it might just solve the problem.

My 885t reboots randomly a couple of times per week.

I've done many hard resets and have the latest firmware installed.

It's a disappointing fact of life with Garmin units it seems.
