Garmin Traffic - Is It Tied To The Plug In Receiver or Garmin Unit?

I currently have a Nuvi 760. The battery just died in it. I been wanting to get lifetime traffic but the cheapest price I can find is at least $50. So if I was going to replace the battery myself (yep checked my serial number not on recall) that will cost me at least $20.

I have a friend that has a 1390T. It looks like it's in great shape, he just doesn't have the charger. For what I read online that model has lifetime traffic included. But I don't know if it takes the certain receiver or will it be tied to the serial number on the GPS unit?

I have my traffic receiver from my 760. I am assuming it is the same connection for the two. Would I be able to plug my connector into his GPS and it will work for free traffic? He lives in a different state so I can't just walk out the door and try it.

Figured if I could offer him about $100 or so I will only spend $25 more then if I bought the two other parts for my current GPS. Plus I like the idea of the junction view and lane assist with the 1390T.

Thanks for your input!

The traffic subscription is tied to the GTM unit. Any nuvi that is compatible with your particular GTM unit will receive traffic info. You can use any number of nuvi with that GTM unit as long as it is compatible.

Appreciate your help. Guess

Appreciate your help. Guess that answers my question if I should buy it or not. Guess I will just fix mine, especially since it already has lifetime maps installed.

Thanks!

EDIT

EDIT above post:

The traffic subscription is tied to the GTM unit. Any nuvi that is hardware compatible with your particular GTM unit will receive traffic info. You can use any number of nuvi with that GTM unit as long as it is hardware compatible.

Note that I stress hardware compatible...

The GTM 20 used with the 7x0/7x5/8x0/8x5 units will work with any of those units since the connector is the same (18-pin flat connector which plugs into the cradle mount). This is not hardware compatible with units like the 1xxx series which uses the GTM 25 which has a USB mini-B connector which plugs into the USB port on the GPS unit itself.

Yeah I understand, that's

Yeah I understand, that's why I will just fix my current 760 and maybe buy the lifetime subscription for my current GTM that came with the GPS.

Just can't believe my battery goes out two days before Garmin announces the recall and of course mine is not listed. LOL just my luck!

But, was your nuvi serial on the recall list? If so, you get it replaced for free.
