Android Traffic Reports

http://www.google.com/mobile/navigation/ (Beta)

I've used both - I'm not ready to ditch my Garmin 1490T yet but I think for many people, dedicated smaller devices are on their way out within years.

Google Navigation

I use the free Google Navigation. When you are using it, you can choose several layers. One of the layers is traffic. This is extremely nice since it gives you a visual idea of traffic over your ENTIRE route.

I am with Bavar though. I am not ready to give up my Garmin....yet.

Garmin Nuvi 2699 with 2017.30 Maps

Compared to Nuvi Traffic

I was actually wondering if there was something that worked like the traffic on the Nuvi. When I had a subscription to traffic updates on my 660, it would recalculate travel time. The smartphone dosent seem to do that.. right?

Hmmm?

Think I'll give 'em a try.

android Traffic

I've found that the traffic reports with my android system ( Droid ) is right about 98% of the time. My 885 with MSN Traffic Reports is wrong about 85 % of the time and I don't trust it at all.

Which Droid App?

Which Droid app is providing your traffic data?

Android Tablets?

The bottom of the page shows a matrix of supported phones and features. The first column is Android. Will this work on Android tablets as well?

Droid Traffic

Go to the droid market place and try these two apps. I find them both BETTER than MSN Reports. Real Time Traffic and Inrix Traffic

Thanks for the tip!

Will try them shortly.

Google Maps Source

Here is an interesting article about where google gets the traffic data.

http://www.brighthub.com/hubfolio/josh-mcwilliam/articles/46...

I don't know where Garmin get it, but I'm guessing they only use the DOT information because the GPS has 1 way communication. Android brings about the ability for thousands if not millions of devices providing data in real time, and everywhere rather then just DOT locations.

How do they differ from google maps?

The screenshots look like you have to manually check. Do they integrate in with navigation or do you have to look at it same as google maps?
