Location-Relevant Offers And Cupons

question
Does anyone know how to turn off the "Location-Relevant Offers & Cuoupons" in the nuvi 3790T.

When you stop for a short period of time at a construction zone, red light or are waiting in line for whatever the 'nag' screen pops up.

How can I use the coupons that pop up on my device?
Answer:
You can present the coupon code to the related location.
When an advertisement appears on the screen, touch the advertisement to search for the nearest location related to that advertisement.
If the advertisement includes a coupon icon:
1. Press on the coupon icon
2. Press on the coupon icon on the Go!
3. Page down to coupon code
You may now write this coupon code down and present to related location. If you are unable to write down due to driving you can view a list of advertisements you have received.
View list of advertisements:
1. Press Tools
2. Touch Advertisements
If you do not want to receive Ad-based traffic you can turn this feature off.
* Ad-based traffic information is only available in North America. The traffic receiver must be connected to external power and you must be in a coverage area to receive ad-based traffic information.

When will ads pop up on my FM TMC (Traffic Message Channel) traffic receiver?
Answer:
The following are examples of when ads will popup on the screen:
• When stopped upon arriving at a destination.
• When on the main menu.
• Upon startup of the product.
• When viewing the traffic review page.
• When searching among certain POI categories.
• When on a map screen without an active route and IF the unit has been stationary at least 15 seconds AND no ad has been displayed in the previous 15 minutes.
• When on the map screen in an active route and IF the unit has been stationary at least 15 seconds AND no ad has been displayed in the previous 20 minutes AND if the unit is at least 20 minutes from the next maneuver.
If an ad is missed, it can be found by:
1. Selecting Tools.
2. Advertisements or Offers
3. Select the ad on the list.
If the advertisement feature is disabled, the traffic services will be disabled as well. This can be performed by:
1. Selecting Tools.
2. Settings.
3. Traffic.
4. Select the checkmark next to Enable Traffic to make it disappear. This will disable the advertising messages and traffic services.

In Other Words

You can't, unless you unplug your traffic receiver power cord.
The ads are how the "free" traffic is paid for.

Switch Power Chords

Purchase a generic power chord (eBay) and use that instead of your traffic receiver chord. That will get rid of the ads but also traffic alerts.

As another forum member has pointed, out, the ads are the trade off for your 'free' traffic service. At least they only pop up when stopped and don't interfere with any GPS activity when you're moving.

Cheers smile

My feeling is that they do go away, I think I have read that. However, I have not been able to find a link yet.

I've never seen an ad

It's strange, but I've never seen an ad on my 1490T with free traffic. The receiver definitely works, and I've been stopped at a light very many times with the receiver actively updating. Lucky maybe? Or maybe the stations in the Chicago area don't transmit ads.

I've Never Seen an Ad

No ads on my 760 when it had free traffic. But then I went to a Total Traffic Network Clear Channel lifetime subscription. It seems the ads are different on the 3790T. Perhaps the reason they went to hi-res was for the ads alone.

Good Info

I'm sending this to aa friend who was looking for the same info. Thanks!

Didn't used to get them but I do now

On my 265WT (had the unit for over a year), I didn't used to get them (in Toronto Canada). I get them now occasionally, but now I am using a 1490T (so far no ads, but traffic reciever works fine as a matter of fact I'm using the cord from the 265WT).
