Current Amazon.com nuMaps Prices

I found it interesting that the Nuvi 3790T was not in the list of units the map code will work with.

About a week ago I had noted that Amazon had dropped the price to $79.95. Since I was kicking around the idea of getting the lifetime updates, I wondered what the lowest price ever was, and started this thread:

Looks like the lowest so far was $69.95.

However, note that Garmin now lists the MSRP as $89.95, so maybe you and I bought too soon. I suspect that the price is about to drop more in the near future.

The reason the price is dropping is b/c I just bought the Lifetime maps for $79.99. Everytime I wait until the price goes down and think I am getting a good price and purchase it, the price goes down further. It happens every time.

If you had told us about this before WE bought at $79.95 we could have waited and saved some money!

TomTom and Magellan are bundling their units with free map update for life of the unit and those prices are well below $200 for very nice units. Garmin has to do something to stay price-competitive. For example XL 340TM (TomTom) is sold for $149 at Staples and includes 4.3" screen, TTS, traffic for life and map update for life. I've never owned a TomTom GPS and can't say anything about it, but for that price, if I was in market for a new GPS I would definitely give it a look.

Future Shop in Canada have started bundling the life time map update with some of the Garmin units they sell. I thought it was so that you could not "price match" the units from other retailers.

Still running one year old map set...I think I may hold out a few more months.

In addition to dropping the price from $119 to $89, Garmin is now selling GPS's that include the lifetime update as part of a bundle. For example, one bundle name is "nüvi® 1450LMT" - "Lifetime Maps & Traffic". What is strange is that they list the One Time Map Update for $79... for $10 more you get updates for "life"!

I recently boutght a 765T with lifetime maps and lifetime traffic for $199.

Garmin is also doing the 'buddle' thing for lifetime maps and traffic on the 13xx and 14xx model Nuvi's.
Basically works out to $20 for lifetime traffic, including the receiver and $50 to $70 for lifetime maps, depending on the model purchased.

Aardvark, what's the difference between "Lifetime" and Lifetime Online Code?" I purchased lifetime updates from Amazon a few weeks ago, and their deliverable was a code that I used on the Garmin site to actually download the new maps. I don't recall seeing the Online Code option at that time on the Amazon site.

I'm not the 'vark, but here's the answer:

The lifetime is a "credit card" with the Product Key printed on it which you use to add lifetime maps to your GPS after you receive it in the mail or UPS, etc.

The lifetime online code gives you the same result but the code is given to you over the internet.

As many of have pointed out, it's very odd. For a majority of the time, Amazon's price for the online code is more than for the mailed credit card--even though the mailed card has packaging and shipping costs.

The online code has been offered by Amazon for a long time now in addition to the mailed card choice, but it's easy to miss.

I too cannot figure out why the online code is more expensive. There is no shipping, no media or any other physical product that has to be handled. Then again, I never quite understood the retail industry when it comes to pricing some things. Years ago I wanted spare hard drive trays for a removable drive system. The spare trays cost as much as the complete system with trays. I bought extra complete systems and even the salesman said he couldn't understand why.

Kindle Books are often full price, but you can get the actual printed book for 25% the price of the digital version. You'd have to pay me a lot of money for me to use a Kindle and the books have to be MUCH cheaper than the printed copies, but I recently heard a story about how book publishers are crying crocodile tears about how they have to charge so much for digital books to make a profit and they have no idea why every retailer charges the same price.

Yeah right. No printing costs, almost no distribution costs, and higher prices charged. Can you say "Price gouging and price fixing"?

Since the new units (or some of them) come with free maps, I'd think that'd be a better deal to just buy new than buy a subscription,.

I got a 1490T two months ago for $190 and just bought a lifetime map subscription for it for under $80. The cheapest I see the 1490LMT for is $325 or $55 more.

Back down to the lowest it has been in a while. $5 cheaper than the "good deal" a few weeks ago.

Costco dot com has also dropped their price to $84.99. It's not as low as Amazon's price but it follows the trend that everyone is dropping the price or they finally realize that consumers like it when it's included free with the PND purchased.

I'm waiting until it come free with new unit purchase.

A friend of mine ordered a nuMaps Lifetime card from Erwin Computers and got exceptional service, receiving it in just a very few days by mail. I ordered one on Sept 3rd, 2010 and also got exceptional service getting it today, 6 days later with a long weekend in the mix. So it seems that Erwin is very reliable - so far. I did notice today, however that the price went up $5 from $68.95 to $73.95. Glad I got mine when I did. It seems that the price varies all over the place!

These prices are great but makes you wonder just how low thay may get. Is it poosible that free lifetime maps are on the way?

I bought a lifetime up date for my sisters 360 and I find it much easier to upgrade the maps then before.

I paid $79.95 back in August. I have yet to activate it as there are no updates available at until probably early next month. Still, I am amazed at how the price is dropping.

I am still curious as to why the online code costs more. Nothing physical to deal with you would think it would be cheaper.

I may have to finally spring for the updates.

Now they are getting to where I can afford a new map.
The old one is still getting me around locally.
