Cheapest price ever for lifetime map updates?

I see the Lifetime map updates on Amazon is currently $79.95.

From the threads I've seen, this is actually a pretty low price. I'm curious if the current price is the lowest anyone has seen or if it has gone lower? What's the lowest price the Lifetime Maps have ever been?

Thanks.

It's also

It's also not the first time Amazon has offered this price. I bought my lifetime maps there on Dec 20/09.

Never seen it any cheaper.

$69.95

If I recall Amazon had the nuMaps lifetime in early April of this year for $69.95. It was available for only a short time and it seems there was some controversy between Amazon and Garmin about it. There is a thread about it somewhere in POI Factory, but I can't seem to locate it (sure wish this forum software had a better search engine).

Even Cheaper

I might suggest that the cheapest price ever (if you are in the market for a new Nuvi) was the 765T I bought through a Garmin retail store in Chicago recently. It came with free lifetime maps for $199 total, which is a great price for the 765T without lifetime maps included.

I used the lifetime maps card to update my 255W which had maps about 2 years old, updated my 765T with the one free update, and now have 2 great units both with current maps.

New vs updates.

I've always had it in the back of the mind if it was worth just waiting to get a new unit when it got old enough to update a map. Then I jumped from a 265 to a 285 after a year so it made me think more. Battery life, technology vs map update for about 1/2 price of a new unit.

Lifetime maps is tied to the device.

Isn't lifetime maps tied to the device, not the owner?

Which would mean you now have a 255w with lifetime maps. With no way of updating the 765t.

Always a way

There is always a way to update the 765 ... buy another lifetime card. smile I think if I had been in royalty's situation, I would have put the lifetime subscription on the 765T, primarily because of the Lane Assist updates that are being expanded with each new map update.

The $199 price for a 765T and lifetime map subscription was an amazing deal.

Amazon is the cheapest at

Amazon is the cheapest at the moment.I just placed it from Amazon for $79.95 so i can update my nuvi 755T.estimated shipping date Aug 16th.

lifetime maps

yes lifetime maps are tied to a unit after you activate it, but the card that came with the 765T is not yet activated, so you can activate it to any unit you have registered.

I updated it this way (to the 255W) since it is still a very functional unit and the only way to update from the 2 year old maps on it otherwise would be to buy an update (either lifetime or one time). This way I get both units updated to current, for now, at no extra cost and if I want to upgrade the 765T to lifetime 3 or 6 or 9 months from now I will still be able to buy the lifetime update then, and who knows, it may even be cheaper then.

New Unit

I just bought my 1490T recently, so lifetime maps make sense to me. I got convinced in other threads that it might be useful, so I thought I'd wait until I saw a great price. It sounds like this is near the market low, so I'll be jumping on the deal.

Thanks

I strongly recommend searching Google for customer reviews of this company. The results are not encouraging. You would be better off paying the extra $1 and going with Amazon.com. But to each his own.

The 1350T with lifetime maps is available right now for $199 ($202 directly from Amazon). That's only $50 more than the unit alone.

Does it expire?

I was just wondering, I have the lifetime maps in my 660. But if it stolen or damaged and I need to get a new one, I know I need to buy another. But the main thing is if I buy the card now, and don't replace my GPS for a couple years still, will the card be good when I need to use it?

It's only good for one serial number GPS.

Always on the Road Knowing where I've Been

it will be fine

If you buy a card now and don't register it to a GPS at this time, you will be fine if you decide to use the card to put lifetime maps on another GPS next summer for example.

Barring Garmin going out of business, they probably will honour the card for at least the next 12 months.

After that you might be stretching it.

You would have to check with Garmin for the definitive word. (I'd be surprised if they would outright guarantee it indefinitely)

Expires?

From all indications on the packaging, there should not be any lifetime limit on use of the card. I received my card in mid-August but I don't need it until the 2011.30 maps come out. I figure if something goes wrong with my 765T in the interim or for some reason I acquire a different device, I will have the map update ready to go.

The card packaging say that it is refundable unless the PIN code on the card has been revealed. So even if their is an expiration on the card itself, it appears you can get a refund as long as you do not reveal the code on the card.
