No

It still doesn't work for me with FF 3.6.8 or IE 8.0.7600.16385.

Maybe it has something to do with security settings.

Garmin Connect

Last week this was not working for me. I just checked and now it seems fully functional. Something on this changed recently.

I'm running IE8 on Windows 7.

Nope

Doesn't work for me either with FF or IE. Just get a very bland page that has San Fran as the default location and a prompt that says "Google Map loading..." and nothing more happens.

I logged into my account separately to make sure that wasn't the problem and still get nothing.

This is strange as another thread on the subject I posted that I had no problem with using the feature.

Working Now

I reinstalled the Communicator Plugin v. 2.9.2.0 in FF, got the Test Page telling me everything was properly installed, closed FF, reopened it and now everything is working properly.

Before I had the page displayed as described by rocknicehunter above.

Garmin Connect Photo

Just for info. Here is the answer to the email I got back in June about the reason for the problem that has now been fixed.

I am writing to you in regards to the difficulties you are experiencing in downloading the photo navigation POIs from the Garmin Connect Photo website. I understand that the Google map does not load, no matter how long you wait, and you are unable to get the POIs you are interested in. I am sorry you are experiencing this difficulty.

I have checked into this since the process is working on our internal network but not outside it and found that there is a security problem that is being addressed which is preventing the Google map from loading. Our engineers are working diligently to resolve this problem and once they have done so, the page will be up and running again.

Can't believe it...

When I just went back to use it, it was not working anymore. So it just worked once as mentioned above.
Reinstalled the plugin again to no avail.
Don't know what to do...

Pop up

I get the pop up question in IE but not in FF. The only time the map properly loaded was in FF.

Your help is appreciated.

I didn't get the question in Safari either. It open it right up.

Still no joy

I reinstalled communicator in both FF & IE and get the error exclamation point in both browsers. IE reports "ext" errors for lines 247 & 255.

No pop ups either and I have the blocker turned off in both browsers.

Stumbled across this thread and thought I'd try it on my 1690 using Firefox 3.6.8 on Win 7/64 bit. Works fine.

As a test, I d/l one image and find the jpg plus a gpx file. Are both safe to just delete?

XP Pro and IE 8 here (plus Stopzilla and ZoneAlarm)

Would not even load for me, until I turned off the "pop-up Blocker". The page still had errors when loading and would not work as expected.

Not that interested in putting pics on my Garmin, so I'm not going to play around with my settings.

@nuvic320

Once you load the photo from the site and it appears in your favorites. You can touch go and you will be directed to that location just like any other favorite.Hopefully the coordinates are correct by the author. There are cameras and program for attaching coordinates to a picture for navigation.

What it says in Garmin Support

Here is what I found in Garmin Support Q&A:

Question: Why does Garmin Connect Photos give an error when loading the page and not display the map?
Answer:

With today's web sites there are many new technologies available to make the web site useful and entertaining. With each new technological advancement there are also requirements needed to use that feature.

At this time Garmin Connect Photos may give an error when loading the page and the map may not properly display. The reason for this is that Google has certain requirements needed for their maps to load on a particular web page. At this time, the Garmin Connect Photos web page does not meet those requirements. The Garmin Connect web team is aware of this issue and are currently working on a solution.

Sure hard to understand why

Sure hard to understand why it works for some and not others.I know they have had problems with it.I emailed them a lot about the problem for the last month. At first they kept saying it worked at their stations.I finally got a phone call from them. They used a program to connect to my computer and found the problem was on their end.A security problem they later found. It is still working here.I guess they have a few more problems to work out.

Sigh.

Answer from Garmin

Here is the answer I just got from Garmin:

"Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

I have just double checked on this and find that if you go directly to www.panoramio.com you can upload your pictures the same as in your Garmin connect account. Unfortunately I do not have any information about when the issue will be resolved in Garmin connect."

I was hoping for a more positive answer. I seems it's certainly not one of their priorities... too bad. sad

--

Upload to Panoramio

Not to your GPS. I logged into my Panoramio account and see absolutely no way to upload from that site TO my GPS.

rocknicehunter wrote:

I agree with you. I checked after I got their answer and I could not find a way to download the pictures to my GPS even when loggin in Panoramio.

The only thing you can do, unless I am missing something, is saved them to your PC by using "Save as". Then how do you transfer them to your PC as Favorites, what Garmin Photo Connect would do??

I hope they fix it soon.

Garmin Connect Photo vs Panoramio

charlesd45 wrote:

Charlie, I meant that I was unable to download pictures directly to my GPS from the Panoramio website, following the answer I got from Garmin where they told me:

"I have just double checked on this and find that if you go directly to www.panoramio.com you can upload your pictures the same as in your Garmin connect account.".

I do not want to upload pictures, I want to download them to my GPS.

I must say Garmin were not very helpful on that one. They put a function in new GPSs, it's not working and they do not know when it will be repaired.

--
Clem - Garmin 2495LMT, 1450T & C530

Not that new though

Clem530 wrote:

If you search the threads you'll see this feature has been discussed before. I used to work for me but they must have changed the code on their web page and broke it. My impression is they have no idea what they broke, so that is why they don't have a clue how long it will take to fix.

Garmin Connect Photos

Following the answer from Garmin on 4 August quoted below, I told them that I wanted to download pictures, not upload them. They sent me another email 2 days ago asking all kinds of details on my PCs, i.e. operating systems, browsers, versions, router info...etc. I really hope they will come up with something and that I will be able to use Garmin Connect Photos. I will post the results.
