Garmin Playlists

Is there an "easy" way to create playlists on Garmin? Creating a playlist using the Garmin 755t seems to be very difficult.

Playlist

Thanks. I'll give it a try.

You're welcome.

Post back and let everyone know how it turned out for you.

Method Not Listed

I see that is an old thread and the method I use is not there. I put all my MP3's in a directory called MP3 on an SD card. Then from a command prompt in Windows I change directory to that directory (call it F:\MP3 as an example) and I type either:

Dir/B *.mp3 | sort > Music.m3u

or

Dir/O/B *.mp3 > Music.m3u

I put the SD card back in and import the Music.m3u playlist from the SD card.

Ah yes!

Sometimes the old command line is hard to beat.

Graphical systems are usually pretty good whether under "Windows" or "Linux" but there are many times you can get to the heart of the problem with the command line. It is probably why Microsoft finally created a wonderful set of command line utilities for Windows. Not very well publicized but you can really get stuff done quickly without resorting to a dozen mouse clicks. It definitely the only way to drive a Linux system.

Finally?

Finally? laugh out loud Windows has always had the command window and command line utilities ... many of them like the DIR command you referenced originating and expanded from the original PC/DOS - MS/DOS, and some would say adapted or stolen from CPM.

I wasn't referring to the classic commands that were part of command.com or cmd.exe. I am referring to the "new" commands such as netsh, diskpart, findstr, fsutil, mountvol, schtasks (there was the AT command), tasklist, taskkill and the CScript facility which were added after Win2K. Previously your only option was either a third-party utility or having to use the GUI to do these things. I use netsh and fsutil quite often myself and they are easy to script.

Playlists

I used Windows Media - used drag and drop from my Garmin and then saved in the playlist folder on my Garmin using the .m3u format. Easy.
