Navigation Systems in Toyota's

Well I had the misfortune of having to purchase a new car which is nice but the other car was paid for..My question since it came with a nice navigation system, and no I have not read the 500 page manual yet, is there a way to upgrade the POI's like my Garmin, I know you can update the maps, I want to know if you can upgrade the POI's.
Any help in this matter will be appreciated.

Probably not

Most in car systems are "closed" in that the only way to load new data is by the factory DVD.

Toyota/Lexus Nav System

For older model using DVD base you have to buy a new DVD to put in the Nav system. Usually in the trunk or glove box. Ebay have cheaper price than dealer.

Newer model using HDD base and you have to bring to dealer for update. Cost you around $300 each time.

There no way around you can load extra POI to manufacture system.

The maps on Toyota/Lexus nav system always behind other stand alone GPS like Garmin, Navigon at least 2 years. Mine 2010 Lexus model still didn't show up my home street which I found on Navigon & Garmin maps 2 years ago.

Same thing for other manufacture such as Infiniti/Nissan.

Hope this help.

I have been using my Toyota

I have been using my Toyota navigation system for about a week now and be honest with you, I will go back and use my Garmin, even though the size of the screen is nice, it kind of gets complicated using it, with my Garmin I have no problem going to my destination.

It's like anything else you have to learn and use it. I have a built in in my Lexus and love it...The reason it is more complicated is there are many more features than on the Garmin...
